Save your money for something good and enjoyable

Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

I'm sorry the science is bad. I'm sorry it wasn't filmed in Australia and they got a lot of accents and details wrong. I'm sorry some people don't think much of the acting.But I really enjoyed the scenery. It was well photographed. The acting was decent and the women were nice to watch. All in all, It was a pleasant flick to spend a rainy afternoon on.

Almost as funny as Robot Monster, or any of the magnificent Ed Wood Classics, but without the deep scientific grasp of those earlier films.Read a dozen or so reviews -- the reviewers put a lot more into their posts than anyone connected with this incredible turkey -- I didn't see any review mention that our sun can't supernova, it isn't the right kind of star. It can nova, and its furthest expansion will reach the orbit of the inner planets, probably out to earth, but will not fill the whole solar system, as stated by one of the characters.Great observation by one of the reviewers on how, after surviving in those Phoenix locations, the lucky few come to the surface and get to work on constructing a new sun. Excellent! And naturally in an actual nova there most certainly won't be anyone coming up, and probably no earth remaining to come up from -- but also no sun, and that wasn't comprehensible to anyone involved with this nonsense. No one in the whole project who knew any science at all, with tens of millions of dollars to burn -- pun definitely intended.During the opening scenes I thought the story would involve the supernova of some distant giant star finally reaching our solar system seven million later. Silly me, that would have been far too stuck in boring reality.The weirdest part is from start to finish I couldn't stand any of the characters. Can't say that about any of the Ed Wood masterpieces.

Peter Fonda, Tia Carrera, Emma Samms and Luke Perry team up to save the world from our exploding sun! Whew! Well as long as it's THOSE guys on the job, I'm not worried! Made for the Hallmark Channel this one is short on good FX and a bit long on padding. Actually, padding is mostly what you get. There's a story about a serial killer and then the guy who is supposed to save the world is also very concerned about attending his daughter's musical recital. There is also a government conspiracy to keep the public from learning about our impending doom, which was the only part of this magnificent opus that rang remotely true. It's readily obvious that this was stretched and strung out in order to fill 2 slots in Hallmark's programming schedule.There's been a lot of talk about how scientifically inaccurate this movie is and I have to say I found that endearing. It's about as scientifically accurate as an episode of Gilligan's Island. But neither this movie nor Gilligan are documentaries. They're just meant to entertain. The same applies to all the other inaccuracies, such as the fact that most of the Australians speak with American accents, the fact that Australia doesn't have the death penalty (an important plot point) and the license plate debacle. There's also a futile attempt by the characters to escape the explosion of the sun by hiding in tunnels deep underground(with a lot of dry ice) and then coming back up to the surface and building a "new sun" once the whole "exploding star" thing blows over. Like there would even be an atmosphere(or a planet) left after all that. But once again, it's not a NASA training film. This is just a quickie made for TV movie and it need only entertain.The problem here is that unless you're a fan of really bad movies, movies that blatantly and callously insult the intelligence and taste of all who watch it, then you probably won't like this movie at all. You may even throw a shoe at the TV screen just out of spite. But if you're like me, and you do find that type of movie amusing, then it's fun. It fondly reminds me of those end-of-the-world movies from the 50's and 60's like When Worlds Collide and The Day the Earth Caught Fire.If you have several friends who like to get together and rip on terrible films, then it might even make for a fun party movie, assuming your keg or wine cellar doesn't run dry.

This is not a very good film and you can criticize the entire picture with all kinds of ideas, but this is just a plain old entertaining film about the sun burning up the sky. The actors all went around in circles doing their thing and I have to praise them for having to cope with such scripts and way out situations. When you see this film you will think all the actors are stepping on each others toes. Dr. Austin Shepard, (Peter Fonda) was a scientist who discovers the horrible facts about what is going to happen to the earth and goes to some remote island and sits and enjoys the sunshine and quite a few fancy drinks. Everyone is looking for Shepard and you begin to wonder if Shepard is anti-social. Try to Enjoy.
