I love this movie so much
The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Bag boy is hilarious! Also, unlike some of the national lampoons it's funny for women and not just men and has a touch of realism in it. It's not too stupid and has just enough real life zing so that you don't feel like your watching something that only a 13 yr. old could get into. The portrayal of women isn't so bad and it lets a girl be a part of the comedy and not just a prop for the jokes. There's almost a bit of lesson in there which is nice since the crowd for National lampoon movies could probably use a little of that here or there!Overall I'd say it's great for guys that want to watch a guy movie with their girl or girls that want a guy movie that isn't too stupid. The plot is silly but the way it's handled just works!
Honestly, wasn't expecting a whole lot here, meh... reaction at best. However, I was really pleasantly surprised - if this had had Will Ferrell or John C Reilly or David Koechner I wouldn't have been surprised. All in all this was entertaining - really.Plot: bag boy + loser manager vs. champion bag boy (Who looks and acts just like the bad guy from Karate Kid) + scuzzy manager - you now know the whole story.Lots of actors you'll recognize and a whole take on supermarket life that is serious enough to be taken as pastiche on the sports genre (Compete, lose, train, bond, triumph... well, duh....)It's got a definite Kingpin feel to it (And actually does a homage to that halfway through) - for a pastiche sports movie this may be 100% by the numbers but it plays those numbers well...there's nothing too gross or offensive, no bodily fluids or nudity, while not exactly wholesome, it is viewable without cringing...Definitely not bad, and a whole lot better than we were expecting...
