It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.
It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
When I was attending a horror convention with a friend we bought together this flick, the man who sold it had a big laugh on his face just to give the statement, you've been ripped off but it costs only 2 euro's so we couldn't be ripped off I guessed. Was I right, this is an excellent zombie flick. Of course it's low budget and it shows but it gives something extra on it. I mean, the night scene's are a bit too dark so you don't really see what is happening so by that way you can't see the cheap effects, but again, they are well done. Just watch out for the end when the zombies really attack. There are decapitations, pitchforks going into bodies and everything else you would like to do to a attacking zombie. That's all done very well but the make up of the zombie's faces are really bad. But don't hesitate to go search for it, is will well worth your money. The only thing I could say that was a bit annoying was the Irish language, I have nothing against that but it is sometimes hard to understand and sadly there were no subs on it.
The plot was an interesting and entertaining twist on zombie outbreaks. I was going to rate this 5 stars due to the low budget production and the occasionally incomprehensible Irish accents. However, I realized there was also some significant directing being done on a shoe string budget. The actors were for the most part better than average. I got the required minimum few scares. The blatant attempts for laughs were down played to a minimum, like the music. And the shots of the low budget effects were not enough to become laughable. I also liked the closing song. And who doesn't love a good cow turned meat eating predator? "What was that?" "That was a cow." "It couldn't be." "Why not?" "They're all dead." ... and then ... the bad news. Bon apetit!
It may be hampered by poor production values, amateurish acting, dreadful dialogue, and a derivative script that veers awkwardly between horror and splatstick comedy, but low budget Irish zombie flick Dead Meat is at least a lot of fun, which is more than I can say for some of the dreck from the 'Emerald Isle' that has been passing for horror in recent years (see Isolation and Shrooms).Director Conor McMahon wisely opts to ignore the fact that the genre has already been 'done to death' and concentrates instead on keeping the action flowing: his plot, a basic fight for survival against the undead in rural Ireland, allows for plenty of gory mayhem, and the introduction of several colourful characters midway through keeps proceedings fresh until the inevitable showdown between the film's final survivors and the mounting zombie hordes.By utilising hand-held DV camera-work to lend an urgency to proceedings, McMahon delivers some surprisingly effective scenes (although I would have liked to have seen a little more thought put into shot construction during less treacherous moments) and the director also makes great use of his amazing rural locale, capturing some beautiful imagery whilst staging action in both vast open spaces and restrictive, claustrophobic buildings (including a run-down rustic cottage and a couple of historical ruins).Sometimes, the comedy angle doesn't work as well as it might (particularly when strong Oirish accents make understanding dialogue rather difficult) and the gore isn't always that convincing (although it is certainly very enthusiastic!), but on the whole, this is an admirable effort.6.5 out of 10, rounded up to 7 for IMDb.
This movie, with no lie, brings me back to the original feel of Night of the Living Dead & Dawn of the Dead. The story was simple, the characters where great, but most of all the zombies and the gore factor were classic B movie. I mean that out of respect as a true B movie zombie/horror movie fan.It is refreshing to see a movie with an extremely low budget, depend on old school horror movie techniques and great gory story lines. There was not a slow moment in this movie. It kept me on my toes, and I didn't want it to end.I think Dead Meat 2 would be a f@#k'n great idea, only if it had the same writers and the same budget.Favourate lines in movie:"i heard that every time someone dies, another star appears."" well there's a lot of stars out tonight"Very Dawn of the Dead. The whole "when hell is full, the dead will walk the earth ." , kind of thing.
