Excellent, Without a doubt!!
Bad Acting and worse Bad Screenplay
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
The animated movie is a gem-it was my favorite movie for a while and it was the first animated movie to get nominated for Best Picture. There were many flaws noticed in the original, so that is one of the reasons it was remade is that many of the flaws are fixed. For example-why were the Beast's servants cursed as well? The Beast is the wrong doer! Actually, Mrs. Potts points out that they let the Beast become spoiled rotten, so they earned their punishment. There's a few added songs-they are fine but don't really stand out to the originals. I saw this in a packed theater and we all had a great time in the theaters. Despite being a theater, when Gaston sang "As a specimen, yes I'm intimidating!" literally everyone in the theater sang out: "Oh, my, what a guy that Gaston!" That in itself shows how fun the movie is. Yes, you know what's next, and how it ends, and how the songs go-but so what? This remake of Beauty and the Beast is one of the most entertaining movies released in recent years.
I feel like there is not a lot to say about this film. It was a live action remake of the fantastic 1991 original Beauty and the Beast (emphases on the remake). I felt like this remake did not really bring new life to a story like a remake is supposed to; it just slapped a few new songs in there and called it good. I think that the whole live action Disney thing is a cash grab, but this isn't the time or place to discuss this... To be fair, there were things I did enjoy about this film. I thought the way they did some of the old songs like "Be Our Guest" and "Tale as Old as Time" were done very well. I also thought the film was visually pleasing and the costume/set design was whimsical. Overall, I think this as an average film that did not give justice to the original except for a few spots here and there.
I really cant find the words to put my disatisfaction with this movie the best way i can. At one hand i really enjoyed the graphics and in general whole production was great, the songs, designs , even the story was ok when observed detached from the whole movie, BUT once it all is merged together with actors and all.... it was just not.... good. I did like Gaston.
Not sure why a lot of people had massive problems with it. I thought the re-imagining was done well enough, and in the least was a good ode to the original. I still would prefer the original, and the prince could have been handsomer, the entirely CG beast better, and a few other nit picks, but all in all good to watch just once, then return to the 2D classic.
