The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.
I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
Pick a lighting scheme.Flesh Jenga"Holy holy cats"... That seems like they ran out of ideas for dialog.I hate the hysterical ones. The usual play to these films is someone is a plant.Mr Buttons is a real survivor. The doctor is annoying but her "imitation" is briefly amusing. The most expensive line item for this film are the doors.27 minutes in and I'm not bored enough to finish this. I'll read what happens on Wikipedia.
I'm honestly really surprised by the high rating here. I may be more disappointed due to the hype surrounding this film, but I was really shocked with how awful this was. The concept is certainly interesting, but it is executed terribly, even considering when the movie was made. The acting is the first issue - in many instances, it's just bad. Dialogue is cheesy and unrealistic. And finally, the plot has no semblance of resolution, and there's not even detail enough provided for the viewer to make their own interesting interpretations. Overall, just a really mediocre film undeserving of all these 10/10 ratings.
Cube is possibly the best psychological thriller/horror film I've ever seen. Many movies with great premises like Sinister are brought down by other elements like the acting or visual presentation, but Cube doesn't suffer from any of those issues. The acting, set design, and scene structure give off an incredibly claustrophobic and dramatic feeling to the movie. One of the things that Cube does the best is the development of the characters throughout their journey. Re-watching the movie felt like a completely different experience when I knew how some characters would change and what they would ultimately contribute. The one single complaint I have with Cube is a major plot convenience used in the later half of the movie. Even though it was probably handled in the best way it could have been, it was still kind of annoying to see the ingenious writing go a little off track.Cube may not be the best choice for certain people, but I think fans of sci-fi and horror would love Cube.
Good:Well acted, unpredictable and fleshed out characters. Mysterious, suspenseful and claustrophobic setting. Smartly written puzzles and traps.Bad:Unsatisfying finale. Leaves a lot of unanswered questions.
