The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

The story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating. Slumdog Millionaire was nothing sort of special as critics wanted you to think plus the acting, the storyline and the script weren't any better either to be perfectly honest at this point. (0/10)

As they say, if Hollywood lands a money-making script, they will go with all guns blazing to make the movie, however improbable the premise may sound. "Slumdog Millionaire" is just such a script, a screenplay so laden with improbabilities that it holds the most tenuous link with real life, but because of its "feel good" factor, few who swallow its incredulities will care. Two Indian slum kids who speak excellent English? Check. Two slum kids who can survive into adolescence will no home to sleep in and merely by working odd jobs throughout India? Check. A chai wallah who is fated to win 20 million rupees? Check. Baddie cops and underground figures who have only the brain of a three year kids? Check again. The list proliferates...but it's not as if most audience aren't aware of them. The movie is entertaining in a way some kitsch are, because it caters to all the stereotypes as envisioned in so many present-day Hollywood films. It makes a millionaire out of a former slum boy who happens, just happens, to know (almost) all the answers in a gameshow. Then just before the credits roll the director tells you: it is written. It is indeed written, by a cast of British screenwriter and director, who seem more interest in disseminating Hollywood/Western typecast images of India than to portray the real India in realistic shades. So all the characters fall into the good/bad dichotomy, with no one shaded in gray areas. The cops, the mafia members are all painted in broad swathes. The Indian actors give their all in making this movie. but the direction is such that one never ever walk away from the theater thinking such a thing could be probable in real life. What this movie really raises is the ethics of much Hollywood movie-making, which goes all the way to glamorize, exoticize or overemphasize what their hackneyed idea of Third World countries are. There is one telling scene when American tourists defend the slum kid despite being ripped off, and the script goes: "this is the real India", "this is real America". Sadly, this movie more than justify my belief that many such movies are basically exploitative flicks replete with "feel good" factor to cater to Western mainstream moviegoers. The filmmakers don't really care about the economic or social ills of India enough to suggest even a modicum of solution, or illuminate them to effect some change.A pity about those Indian actors. Some of them are quite good, especially the young kids. If you want something more gritty without the Hollywood spotlighting, try "Salaam Bombay!", made by an Indian director with a largely Indian crew with a real feel and empathy for its native characters.

It's a good movie but it's not the best. The first half of the film reminded me of "City Of God" about homeless kids in Brasil, but that film had far more violents kids. The story will be fun for those who used to be hooked on the "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" quiz show. Almost all of the story is told in flashbacks. It's one of those stories where all the little pieces fit together in the end to explain why things happened in the start of the film.

The movie ''Slumdog Millionaire'' is based on Vikas Swarup's novel, ''Q & A''. The movie is about an Indian boy born and raised in the slums of the city of Mumbay, named Jamal Malik (played by Dev Patel). He wants to be seen by his childhood love, Latika (Freido Pinto), and because of that he appears as a contestant on the Indian version of ''Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?''. Jamal and his brother, Salim (Madhur Mittal), were forced to leave the slums of Mumbay after their mother was brutally killed. After that they started to steal and trick tourists so that they could survive. One night, Salim and Latika disappear, leaving Jamal alone. Until that night, he never stopped looking for them, especially Latika. His whole life is everything he needs to win the big prize, 20 million rupees. But before he can answer the last question, Jamal is arrested for cheating. This movie is about how a 'slumdog' broke all the barriers and won exactly what he wanted, his true love, Latika. All he did was for her. This movie teaches us to never stop dreaming and not to lose all hope, to fight for what you want in life because no one will fight for what's yours. I truly recommend this movie as long as you want to see something different. It's a movie worth watching!
