It’s an especially fun movie from a director and cast who are clearly having a good time allowing themselves to let loose.

Western movie with a sci-fi twist. But still a 1950s-like B movie. Why did such top actors get involved in this? Made it to last half hour.

It's an unwritten rule that when you see many people involved in the screenplay, the movie's bound to be a mess. Movies that credit eight people as writers might as well just simply credit the script to "Alan Smithee". This project must have been passed from one clueless Hollywood writer to the next, each one getting fired or giving up for whatever issues relating to Ego, stupidity, insanity or any other hollywoodisms. If I want characterization I watch a Shakespeare play. (Which I never do.) This is just your typical pulp-fiction nonsense, so why this over-focus on relationships? More aliens, more action, more weird gadgets – and less predictable, soppy BS. Nobody gives a hoot about various loves, squabbles, and rivalries, especially with this dull cast: just get on with it.Aside from the usual western clichés, many of which weaseled their way into the script, there is so much poor logic. For one thing, why does Wilde not have a spaceship or at least some fancy-shmancy alien weaponry to help the cowboys with? Did she arrive to Earth via a flying saucer or did she ride in on a damn donkey? Her only talent seems to be the cretinous ability to emerge from fire – unscathed – despite the fact that as a visiting alien she should have had a LOT more to offer than her square jaw and bad acting.Honestly, I have rarely seen a human whose jaw that's wider than the upper part of the head. Worse yet, she's female. Well, an alien female. So, OK, fine, in a sense she is the ideal choice to play an alien – since Sissy Spacek was too old for the role. Olivia Wilde is, of course, yet another relentlessly hyped nepotistic Hollywood commodity, a talent-free hack that got her foot in the door sans auditions, simply because she has the right breeding and connections. Once again, movies are not about the artistry, but about who-you-know and what-politics-you-practice. Yes, Olivia is yet another textbook Hollywood vegan, complete with white-guilt activism and a BMI of less than 11. She is so skinny, her arms look like toothpicks, and the less said about her bizarre-shaped sort-of-rectangular anorexic head, the better. So how does ANY living creature in the cosmos get to become immune to the effects of fire? Are her molecules any different from the stuff we know of? If the alien monsters react to bullets and spears, then at the very least a fire should have roasted Olivia, who - judging by the fact that her race was so weak that they were obliterated by those same monsters – should be even more prone to destruction than the malicious beasties. And yet, it turns out her race is practically immortal! So, yes, it certainly makes a lot of sense that her race was destroyed while the gun-wielding humans prevailed. Do these Tinseltown writers use only white powder to write their popcorny garbage? Should cocaine get writing credits too? Besides, what disappointment when I saw Olivia emerge from that flame: yet another typical career of a Hollywood nepotist - you can't kill it, no matter what you do. Just look at Jennifer Aniston! If you're a nepotist, you can have 10 flops in a row and still get major roles served to you on a plate. Friggin' "Hollywood royalty" indeed. Coz this certainly isn't the case with most non-nepotists, who don't get the benefit of early hype and sectarian-like career-nudging.Craig's bracelet is a story unto itself. For some bizarre reason he gets to control it, even though it was built for telepathic use for the monsters only. Even sillier, the shortest Bond ever only manages to get it off his arm after a KISS from Olivia – an alien who should have no sexual desire toward humans. A rather stupid scene of the sort that pulp fiction can get away with, but in comic-book form. Movies are a little different. Suspension of disbelief should not have to mean suspension of all logic. How about the aliens' motives for coming all the way to Earth? Yup, gold. These EIGHT white-powder-sniffing writers could not come up with anything cleverer than what we already laughed at in the supremely so-bad-it's-good mongoose opus called "Battlefield Earth". How low can you stoop as a writer when you have to borrow plot-devices from L Ron Hubbard's idiotic novels? The notion that an alien race would bother coming all the way to Earth just to pick up a few measly kilos of gold is mind-bogglingly dumb, evoking images of Travolta as a fey alien inspecting gold bullion – a classic moment right up there with Ed Wood's "Your stupid minds! Stupid! Stupid!" Even sillier is the scene when they actually steal Craig's pitiful loot. You've got a powerful alien race that resorts to snatching a handful of coins of gold from some pathetic Wild West sociopath.Craig does the movie-cliché low-whisper hiss (just think of Alec Baldwin or Steven Segal) to hide his fake cowboy accent. I'd have preferred to see him relax with an English accent, because, let's face it: not EVERY cowboy was born in America. Many arrived from Britain. But how can a cokehead know that?Yet Craig is positively convincing next to Ford who is a caricature. As for Rockwell, I was glad his role was atypically subdued; there were no opportunities for those annoying wise-ass grins of his. Perhaps he is slowly getting prepared for more "serious" middle-age roles that might get him an Oscar or two (provided he diligently advertises his left-wing activism). One of the positive things in C&A is the miraculous fact that the Indians aren't portrayed as philosophical, pacifistic noble savages. For Indians to get a mostly old-school-Hollywood treatment is pretty amazing in this zombie era of Political Correctness. How the hell did THAT kind of Indian portrayal sneak itself into a modern film?

A spaceship arrives in Arizona, 1873, to take over the Earth, starting with the Wild West region. A posse of cowboys and natives are all that stand in their way. The first time i saw the trailer for this film i thought it was lame i mean common Cowboys & Aliens? then i saw the film and i wasn't impressed but after seeing it again god damn it was a pretty good movie Daniel Craig was pretty good so was Olivia Wilde, Harrison Ford, Clancy Brown, Sam Rockwell and honestly everyone did a pretty good job although Paul Dano was useless. My main issue is that i wanted more Ford and more adventure but the film was good besides those 2 small problems and the cgi was amazing maybe the best i've seen in years especially the first contact with the Aliens was terrific if a movie such as this can take a 6.0 and a forgettable superhero sequel such as Iron Man 2 can have a 7.0 shouldn't Zathura also be higher than a 6.1? My point is that those 2 films that were directed by the same director were way better than Iron Man 2 and if you can study this film better and give it a chance i believe that you will not be disappointed 9/10.

I saw this movie when released for television. Considering the title, I expected to change channels pretty fast. What's more, I'm no fan of Daniel Craig. But, surprisingly, I enjoyed it all the way to the end. Of course, it's all very silly and predictable, but such comments would apply to a whole lot of movies out there. I'm actually more amazed by the critics here about the film. I don't know how such a movie deserve a 400 words or so critique, especially if the conclusion was 0 star. I'm told the writers couldn't come up with a good story, or that the actors were so and so Well, it's not Casablanca for sure, or Gone With The Wind. It's just a movie, entertaining, leave your mind in the lobby style and laugh in the wrong places if you must. Bring in the Aliens, the cowboys and the Indians, six shooters, arrows, lances, ray guns and what not. In my opinion all the superheros movies out there are just as predictable and silly. And for once, for all it's worth, I even enjoyed Daniel Craig this time around.
