Better Late Then Never

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

Thanks to a sick blend of action, comedy, and maturity, DC knocks this one out of the park and then some. This isn't just a home run, it's a grand slam in the bottom of the ninth. Beautifully animated, very funny, fantastically acted, and an awesome story. If this is only the beginning, I can't wait for the other two parts. There's really nothing wrong with this movie, the villains are introduced well, there's action throughout, the humor is spot-on, and the climax is superb. I'm not too familiar with Damian Wayne in the comics, but I love what I see so far. He might have an attitude in this, but he comes from a life of privilege, of servants tending to his every wish, it's natural that he would act this way. Plus, his chemistry with Alfred and Dick is great. I don't care what anyone says, this movie rocks.

This is my first ever review of an animated film, which is kind of strange considering I have seen pretty much every DC and Marvel film released in the past 15 years as well as a lot of Disney and Pixar. Anyway that's neither here nor there,back onto the review.The film is based on a 2006 story arc written by Grant Morrison who has written for so many characters and arcs isn't surprising his work is being adapted into films.The film starts off with a huge training camp being destroyed that we know is owned by the Al Ghul family, a young boy and Mother escape to the boys Father, who turns out to be none other than Batman himself. Batman takes his newly revealed son under his wing deciding to train and protect him from what has already happened.Bruce allows Damien to join him and Robin, in fighting crime, but keeping the criminals alive in typical Batman tradition, throughout this time a huge development happens which will soon have a incredible impact on the plot.The film has a pretty short run time, which isn't to bad due to the fact we do not really need that much characters time, however I would like to have had seen some more on screen relationship progression between Bruce and Damien. Also they did make Deathstroke a bit less of a badass than his usual-self, I mean he gets a beat down more than once by a teen none the less, however that does add to Damien being a very skilled fighter.Overall, the film is a very enjoyable watch full of Action, Ninjutsu style acrobatics and katana based fighting resulting in lots of violence and gore which surprised me when watching because I didn't realise the rating. The voice acting overall is pretty good besides Batman, Jason O'Mara seems to just be reading his lines not putting any emotion or passion into them, the rest of the cast is pretty good nothing special. It does have a strange animation about it, it almost feels like an 80s maybe 90s style look to it, I enjoyed it seen a few people complaining about though.

Marvel dominates the live action stuff but, until DC catches up, they have the animated film department mastered…until they released "Son of Batman." I'm not one to complain about the changes made from adapting a book, graphic novel or comic (and this one had A LOT of changes), instead, the problem that hurt my enjoyment of this one had to due with the fact the story was just really weak and the dialogue was absolutely terrible.While the film follows the predictable lines of a man finding out he has a son and has to somehow connect with them despite the fact they have been alienated from each other for a significant amount of time, the movie fails to hit that requirement of the two finding common ground and they learn, laugh, love and grow together. Yes, "Son of Batman" ends with Batman and his son Damian being a good team and Damian even becomes Robin, the problem is that we don't really see them grow. Damian is a bratty little snob of a child up until he gets the exact thing he wants and is the one thing Batman keeps trying to teach him not to cling to and then *BAM* they are all good and their common ground is found and are now the best of besties. It was a very weak attempt at family drama and matters aren't helped by the fact the film has terrible dialogue to back it up.Some will write off these complaints as nothing because the film is "just a cartoon, man," but when you compare this film to the other, numerous quality films that DC has released based on their characters and their iconic stories, this film just feels like a letdown and something that was thrown together too quickly.What's up, brother? Historically I'm a big fan of the DC animated series' and movies. There has been a trend in their movies lately that I haven't liked. This was one of my least favorite DC movies. It's not horrible, but it's incredibly sub-par for a number of reasons: 1) Damien is WAY to tough for any 10-year old kid, no matter how well trained. Plus he was just arrogant and annoying.2) Deathstroke was pathetic in this! First, his voice actor. The guy from Dharma and Greg...seriously?? It was laughable. He was trying to sound all tough and menacing but failed badly. He is supposed to be one of Batman's deadliest enemies, and in fact Batman doesn't often beat him unless he gets lucky or outsmarts him. But in this movie, he's barely a match for a 10 year old kid. Plus, Batman beats him down one time, without even breaking a sweat. Like I said, pathetic.3) There wasn't any of the classic dialogue we've all come to expect from the DC movies. It was all pretty forgettable.I won't probably ever re-watch this and I hope they shake things up a bit in the future and stop trying to be so edgy and hard-core. Go back to the way these movies used to be.
