I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

It's great being a child at heart with a decent imagination as it allows me to thoroughly enjoy films like this. Starring Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, and Luis Guzman, three actors who I admire, I was only too happy to give this a watch. The thing I like most about Johnson is that even though he's a mountain of a man, he's happy to share the limelight with the other actors, and at times to take a backseat, and this is no exception; because it isn't a vehicle for just one person it builds a depth and context. This is required to help make the storyline more believable. Sean (Josh Hutcherson) is a single child of a broken marriage who is unsure of the new man in his mother's life, Hank (Johnson). It's this relationship that binds the film together. If this was unbelievable then making you believe in the Mysterious Island would have been nigh on impossible. However, the writers Richard Outten and Brian and Mark Gunn give the viewer one of the more realistic relationships seen on screen; and both Johnson and Hutcherson add the icing on the cake. When Sean intercepts a coded message, it's with Hanks help that is gets decoded and the possible location of Jules Verne's Mysterious Island is revealed. Hank decides to take the chance on locating the island in the hopes of developing his relationship with Sean. Even if it's a wild goose chase, their time together should allow them to bond.Luckily for Grandpa Alexander, Michael Caine, they find the island and the adventure starts.Director, Brad Peyton, does a decent job of keeping the pace going, whether to build tension, comedy, or action sequences and I cannot fault his work at all.The special effects are still passable today, saying they were done in 2012. The flight of the bumblebees is a great sequence. I especially loved the elephants, that scene raised a smile to my lips and a laugh to my voice - very clever. However, the strange flora and fauna they come across while on their trip to the Nautilus is a letdown and is comical in both their look and shape.Another thing that irked me was Guzman's character which seemed to be just around as a comic fill-in. It would have been nice to see him have a little more depth, plus the story really didn't need this type of character as there was enough humour throughout.I found this to be a much better film than Brendan Fraser's Journey To The Centre Of The Earth back in 2008, in every aspect. So if you enjoyed that movie then you should like this one too. If you like good wholesome family entertainment then I would recommend this film, it's lighthearted and heartwarming fun - a good film to watch when it's cold and wet outside.

Because of the way that Pixar blurred the boundaries of adult vs. children's movies beginning with the "Toy Story" franchise, it is difficult to rate kiddie fare in this day and age. In the case of "Journey 2", however, the verdict is quite clear: The kids will sit through this one, while the adults will be looking at their watches or hitting the concession stand. For a basic plot summary, "Journey 2" sees young adventurer Sean (Josh Hutcherson) and his step-dad Hank (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) travel to the Mysterious Island foretold by Jules Verne. While on their way to rescue Sean's grandfather Alexander (Michael Caine), the pair is accompanied by a comedic-relief airplane pilot (Luis Guzman) and his beautiful young daughter (Vanessa Hudgens). There are some things that this film does get right: It most definitely covers all its bases. Young boys will love Hudgens, Johnson has pretty much a universal appeal now, and adults will smile to themselves at the presence of Caine. The cringe-worthy comedy from Guzman is even well- done...when aimed at the kiddies, of course. Plus, the visuals are stunning and the whole island adventure is magical. The trouble, of course, is that there is no plot development and only forced character growth. In this way, it is very much geared for the minds of children. Everything is predictable, and the characters act exactly as expected throughout. Even the sappy message at the heart of the film is geared for the young minds. Thus, from an "adult" point of view, I would struggle to give this film two stars. From the eyes of a child, however, there would be much more enjoyment (if not touching Pixar's level or anything like that, of course). As such, this is a "middle-of-the-road" 3-star experience. The visuals are nice and some of the characters are fun initially, but enjoying it any further requires a childhood perspective.

Man, just too much be my pal, my daddy left me at an early age, feel sorry for me, come together as a family bit, overly sugar coating. Oh, here is a song to make your leg feel better. Was this thing supposed to be in 3D? I have only seen it on TV, but it definitely has staged awkward shots. That stupid throw the berries at my pulsating Pecs, "feed them", comes to mind, looks like it's just here for some nonexistent 3D, it comes off as just creepy, disturbing, too. This is totally pointless. The story line isn't Jules Verne worthy. I take issue with fire melting rocks surrounding you in water and you are not boiled like a lobster. An island that breaks apart on a cycle and reappears with a stone city enacted? What Hogwarts magic is this? This isn't even a good comic book story. My guess, preteens would enjoy it, adults could sit through it, this movie is just too much broken dysfunction family and it's all fixed by this yawn, it's too heavy handed, in your face with this, with a fantasy movie barely intruding on that."So, who's up for an adventure ", not me with this franchise. I rated as a 5, that is generous, the acting is not bad given the material. your kids could be watching worse.

I know this may seem stupid to most people, but not to someone that rides a motorcycle. The sounds of the motorcycle that appears in the very beginning of the movie are sounds from a crotch-rocket. When the motorcycle that the guy is riding is a dual purpose motorcycle which basically sounds like a dirt bike. This is just something to look after while making a movie, at least ask someone what that motorcycle sounds like. I think this is a great movie, but these are just the kind of things that make certain people that a movie is not good or that the people making that movie don't know what they are doing. I hope the motorcycle riders understand. Anyways this is just my opinion.THANKS
