I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.

There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

It was mildly entertaining while it lasted, but did not show anything really scary, nor it did develop some interesting psychological drama between the characters. The routine was rather standard - turn off the lights, play spooky sounds, kill someone, turn on the lights. It tries to push the message that suicide is really, really bad, which is IMO unfair towards people in desperate situations, and it ends up with a piece of typically broken Christian logic: "If the devil is real, then the God must be too."No, it does not. We may live in a world where only devil is real, stalking people and killing them in unnecessarily elaborate ways, or we may live in a world where gods are just a bickering, jealous bunch living on a top of some Greek mountain, or we may live a world of Lovecraftian Void gods that absent-mindedly swallow and chew whole planets, or it's just a plain Descartian clockwork machine of cause and effect. Either way, we have no way of knowing, but at least the honest ones among us do not try to convince themselves and those around them otherwise.

This suspense film revolves around a group of people, unknown to each other, who are trapped inside an elevator of a skyscraper, unaware that one of them is actually the demon in disguise, willing to drag them to Hell and punish them for their sins. Screenplay is based on a story by M. Night Shyamalan, director of "Sixth Sense" among other films. In fact, the concept idea is good, intriguing and succeeds in grabbing the public attention, having been decently developed in the script. "Who will be the next victim?", "who is the devil?"... these two questions are the skeleton of the film from a given moment and this makes everything more predictable from then on because they're limited to a set of options and conclusions. The film is too fast and doesn't have a very good pace. We cannot appreciate the suspense when everything is happening so quickly. The actors' work was decent enough, particularly Chris Messina, but most of the characters weren't particularly good. Jacob Vargas, in particular, played a Latin with strongly stereotyped and absurd characteristics. Cinematography is good, visual and sound effects were well used to densify the environment at the exact moments. The film has quality. However, it lacks some unpredictability and a deeper story, with stronger characters.

I think the plot of this movie come from manga of masumoto yokoNoriawaseta Shinigami (Evil Spirit): Miya was supposed to just take her father his lunch, but an earthquake stops the elevator she is on. Before the lights go off, a woman calls out that there is a shinigami (a grim reaper) among them, but suddenly dies before everyone is able to see where she pointed. Was the woman just crazy or is everyone's life now in grave danger?https://myanimelist.net/manga/4003/Inviting_Darknesshttp://a-lisa.exteen.com/20110311/matsumoto-yokohttp://a-lisa.exteen.com/20110312/matsumoto-yoko

While I was watching this I would have given it a higher rating. It was enthralling in the moment. The filming, directing and most of the acting was well done. This movie had so much potential. It could have been a great thriller or horror, but it got confused (note: not confusing, confused). The writing needed to move away from Shyamalans formula and find it's own voice. Also they needed to set their own rules and stick to them! (spoilers below)1. Devils Reach. They reveal that these people have records, they are all guilty of something, this is why they are in the elevator. What about the guy that commits suicide? He said something about hearing the devils footsteps or something, but it held no real purpose other than to get the detective there. There are plenty of other ways to get him there that could have fit (such as it's his job) while sticking to the idea that the devil is punishing these people.2. The People. Each person has a different crime and they all deserved to die? They weren't even serious offenses, only one guy actually killed. This devil needs to up its goals. If you are going with the idea that they are being punished for their sins (which I've never understood since the devil should love people with sins, so maybe these guys just weren't bad enough and needed to be punished for half a**ing it?) then they should have heavier ones.3. Devil Reasoning. When first asked the security guard says that none of them will live because the devil will kill them all. Then later they need to see themselves for what they are to live, basically if they accept their sins the devil won't kill them. Pick one! Either this devil is having some fun and killing people or it's helping them to accept the crimes they have committed. Don't be wishy washy. 4. The Fiancé. Pointless. This character was only put in to explain why that guy had the tools. She's shown trying to figure out how to get into the building, then she just walks in the front door. The Front Door. The one that is supposed to be watched since the building is on lock down? Yes, that door. All the cops should be fired at this point. She explains the tools and that's it. 5. Non-Elevator Deaths. It is explained that each person in the elevator has something to atone for, some crime or sin, and yet non-elevator, non-criminals die. The suicide guy, maintenance guy and the security guard. It takes away from the whole idea that there's a reason to the elevator deaths, the order is not real so the rules no longer apply.6. Maintenance. A building of that size has one guy? Just one!?! And he's not even trained to know how to go down the shaft to perform maintenance? Yes the devil caused it so it didn't matter in the end, but he went down on a swing and couldn't coordinate himself to grab the walkietalkie. 7. Expositional Security Guard. You know, the guy that is there to explain things? The character whose purpose is to give reasoning to the devil that apparently has no reasoning? He seemed to be making up the rules, but he wasn't even a twist ending devil or anything that would make it make sense. He was just there to explain. Such a pretty decoration.8. The Ending. *Sigh* The biggest disappointment. Up till this point I was willing to forgive the other issues, to ignore the inconsistencies. This is the point where it changes from they're all going to die to self forgiveness and recognition beats devil. This is where it throws the religious undertones in your face like a heavy book. It wasn't a twist, it was the obvious road, it was the easy ending. There's no surprise. Instead they go after school special on you. If you have committed crimes or have sins, you can beat the devil by accepting your short comings and admitting to the truth. The only thing they were missing was the confession booth. Then the cop just forgives him. We don't even get a vengeance killing? No 'Surprise! The devil didn't really leave it just jumped ship!' The ending we got was an 'I forgive you'. It's okay Devil, I forgive you too.
