Simply A Masterpiece
hyped garbage
The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
I bought this film years ago on DVD but never got round to watching it until now. Reason being was the story & the SAW logo on the front cover stating that it was produced by the makers of SAW! So, as any hardcore horror fan would do, I picked it & paid for it to watch. The film is basically about a families life that has come crashing down after their son gets kidnapped & killed by a sadistic child killer. Because of the lighter sentence he has been given they decide to take the law into their own hands by kidnapping & subject him to the same torture he he inflicted on their son!The film was great, well going great I mean it wasn't as overly gory as I would've liked it to be, but hey I was considering keeping it as it had some pretty brutal enough moments, though it did lack & even then considering it was roughly about 74 odd minutes long you'd think they'd cramp some good torture methods in!The film seemed to be going alright & I was almost about to rate it a possible 6 or 7 if not 8 at a push! But the ending came & this whole film went tits up! It turns out they got the wrong man as there was 2 convicts in the prison van & they got the wrong convict who was done for tax evasion! So this entire film cheated me entirely & everything that went on was for f**k all! Hell they may as well have not thought about the kidnapping at all let alone going through with it! They tortured a semi innocent man while the real git was on the run & got caught by police, it just seemed like the whole film was a waste & a big f**k you to those who got led on! It was such ma badly ended film & ruined what could've been a good revenge horror/thriller! Don't want to pi$$ on your bonfire but this film get's a 2, reason being was cause the torture was adequate enough, though could've been better being producers of SAW for Christ sake! But other than that, the ending costed my review to them a good chunk of marks! 2/10
This movie seemed edited or directed weird. It was too fast paced at times to the point of sloppy where I couldn't focus on what was going on. It was pretty rushed. It made it hard for me to care about about the characters or really care about the story at all.I wanted to like it, but by making the characters annoying and unlikable and making the story rushed or non existent, it made it hard to care about much of anything. The acting could have been better too.I'm giving it 5 points since I did bother to finish it and was compelled enough to do so, but that doesn't mean that I really enjoyed it like I could have. It's too bad because the story was something I normally would like in a way. It seemed original and different, but the execution just felt all wrong.
The plot of this film honestly seemed amazing and intrigued me; so many films such as The Lovely Bones and Never Let Me Go are always against getting justice for the unfair loss of a loved one, but what about two grieving parents who lose their son to a crazed pedophile, only to see him get possible parole? How far will they go to avenge their son? Pretty far, as it turns out when they turn their basement into a torture chamber and kidnap the guy, tying him up and slowly killing him through torture methods, very bizarre ones such as one involving a Soviet gas mask. The trouble is, they caught the wrong criminal, and are torturing just a harmless guy charged with fraud who has no idea who they are. While the story itself was interesting and disturbing enough to be a truly messed up horror film, the acting was terrible, the soundtrack boring and unmemorable and the film itself could do with some serious length reduction. Unless you're a masochist or sadist, chances are you won't want to sit through over an hour of watching a supposed pedophile get violently tortured. It's actually rather sick, if you think about it. I can see using torture as a horror element but over an hour of it? Holy cow, that's way too far. And the gas mask scene was very frightening.I wouldn't recommend The Tortured, although it did have potential. It was really lacking many things and was incredibly disturbing. You'll have to watch it yourself to see what I mean.
This movie is just plain silly. The premise is so simple and the "surprise ending" so predicable. And actions of the characters implausible. It offers nothing. The plot: Just in case you're still curious about seeing this film. Yuppie doctors have their young son kidnapped and murdered by a child serial killer. The killer pleads insanity and gets a light sentence. This in and of itself could at least made an interesting Lifetime network movie but instead it's just rushed into the first 15 minutes of the film. We feel absolutely no emotions for this couple or their son since we really don't know anything about them. Their loss is merely the set up for the premise. The vengeful couple plan to hijack the killer's prison transport and take him back their house to torture him. Since they're doctors they know how to keep him alive. The hijack results in a crash but the couple succeeds in their plan and bring the already seriously injured killer back to their basement. Here's where the movie also misses out on an easy opportunity. Movie serial killers are generally interesting. They have a gimmick, 'Manhunter,' 'Seven,' 'Saw,' 'The Crimson Rivers.' Serial killers are interesting. But not this one. The injured killer is unable to speak and we learn absolutely nothing about him. Not a thing other than fact that he's murdered several children. After 60 minutes of boring R rated torture scenes. Yes, R is boring. True horror fans have already seen the Ilsa trilogy, 'Riki Oh' and 'Cannibal Holocaust.' Anything with a mere R rating is boring by our standards.Predictably the killer escapes, but only to hang himself there on the spot leaving a suicide note begging the couple's forgiveness. If he's so injured, how did he manage to hang himself to death? Spoiler warning!!! And now the predictable twist. The tortured man wasn't actually the killer. The couple later sees on the news that the prisoner transport was actually carrying two prisoners. The serial killer and a tax evader. They've been torturing the tax evader. We see in flashbacks that the real killer actually followed the couple back to their house and was hanging around their home the whole time stealing their food. He hanged the man and wrote the suicide note to frame him.Wait a minute! That doesn't make any freaking sense! Why was the serial killer hanging around the house at all? He could have simply killed the couple and hid out from the police in their house! Or he simply could have run like hell and escaped to Canada! Why was the killer even sticking around? It only increased his chances of being caught! Why was he reduced to stealing food when he could just kill for it? He's a serial killer! So what happens now? What does the couple do? They simply go on the lamb to evade the police! There's NO scene where the couple realizes in horror that they've been torturing an innocent man and feels any guilt. Or any guilt that they freed their son's killer! Aren't they the least bit concerned that the serial killer is still on the loose? I guess not since the killer was living in the bushes outside their house for a whole month and never even harmed them once! So that's the disaster which is 'The Tormented.' I can think of no redeeming value in this film what so ever. It's not even fun to riff or make of or base a drinking game around.Just in case you're still curious about the production quality and acting in this film... it's torture.
