Wow! What a bizarre film! Unfortunately the few funny moments there were were quite overshadowed by it's completely weird and random vibe throughout.
it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.
The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
Kept me intrigued until the end when a final rushed plot twist spoilt it. Nick Jonas impressed. Sheriff Sorvino does a good turn.
All together it's not all that bad of a flick, predictable yes, but still fun to watch to see where its all headed. I thought the talent could have been given a much better script to work with. As most mentioned previously the premise is old and tired,,,,,,some new twists could have been added to make it more interesting! Most probably watched for the eye candy, but again a flick that can be enjoyable if you don't get too serious about it and just kick back and watch.
"Careful What You Wish For" is a fairly well-crafted thriller in the tradition of such neo-noir classics as "Body Heat." Unfortunately, the film was slow-moving, and there was not much chemistry between the two lead performers. Both Nick Jonas and Isabel Lucas were good in their roles of Doug and Lena. But the adulterous relationship that was at the heart of the film was never very credible, let alone sizzling. The Kathleen Turner-William Hurt relationship in "Body Heat" is a good barometer for the best in this style of filmmaking. The best part of this film was the ending sequence that focused on a complicated scam pulled off by the femme fatale character Lena. Paul Sorvino is good as the local cop who recognizes the innocence of Doug. But major loose ends abounded in the film, including the climactic scene in the Pines Motel. How did Doug know to go to that site for the incriminating evidence against Lena? How could Lena and her friend possibly escape from the authorities? And also, did Doug ever get to Columbia University, where had been accepted as a student? The viewer needed a better wrap-up in this average action pic.
ultra lame dialogue, wholly implausible but predictable plot & characters combined with anorexic female leads ... the film manages to be neither suspenseful nor funny and lacks any potential to be even slightly charming. the attempts at eroticism fail utterly due to the bland visuals - and the participants remain seriously overdressed for the occasions(they probably thought it inadvisable to show more than a glimpse of the female's emaciated shoulders and legs, let alone much else) - that set up leaves not much for actors to act in any meaningful sort of way, which they really do splendidly; this film gives bad story telling as well as bad film making a bad name ...
