Yawn. Poorly Filmed Snooze Fest.
Strong and Moving!
Fresh and Exciting
It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
I entered the cinema with some in-trepidation before watching this movie, popcorn at the ready and coca cola in hand i slowly sank into my ill-fitting cramp seat. Once the movie started i was awe inspired from start until the closing credits. Sean played by a homosexual dancer was moving like vanilla ice on water, his kick style dancing would of made even the hardcore dancers of the next generation salivate, the only way to express the moves he does without you seeing this film is by saying imagine Tchaikovskys Swan Lake performed by a man in slacks, Now to the very believable storyline which involves a billionaire property dealer who wants to knock down thousands of crack houses to make way for better quality homes and a cleaner safe environment for children to play in, and the dancers persistent fight to thwart him in his tracks, and true to life after 2 hours of watching kicks and hands flapping about they succeed, plus they all become great mates and have a bit of a laugh. excellent movie that should of got an Oscar for most elaborate and traditional story line.
I started watching this movie being a little curious never having seen any street dance film before. Boy was I in for some entertainment. Some reviews claimed no story, although recognising how brilliant some of the moves where. If anyone else thinks this is just run of the mill, then please tell me your favourites because I'm watching them too! Me? I found the story as valid as any of the dance classics (Dirty Dancing is always going to come mentioned). A crew that wants to be heard so they can make a name for themselves, and end up wanting to be heard to have a voice and fight for what they have. The dance choreography was phenomenal, creativity to the max. Each I find breaking the previous, and the end scene perfect. That end scene then ties closer to the picture directing, wow, it's great. The final duet dance with the cityscape and sundown behind them. Its magic. Will it/ could it become a classic? Depends if the protagonists make it in the cinema world! (I believe) It's that good.
who says that dance can't change anything electric boogie all over again but better way way back before even the first step up there was a low budget flick that became popular to it remains one of my favorites Electric Boogaloo (1984) along the very same lines as this step up 4 is believe it or not more believable very well directed soundtrack the hole thing is awesome very well done in this day and age this kind of thing is happening some of us are being redeveloped out of existence definitely a keeper so what if it's not another star wars or ET the fact is that its more real than both those movies combined no matter what you think of Hip Hop and graffiti they are some of the most real world arts of today
I would give minus stars if I could. I'm surprised it has the rating it does. I never post my opinion but this film struck that big of a flat note for me that I feel the world needs to know. The "acting" is so terrible I am lost for words. I was on a 22 hr flight from Thailand and tried to get through this film. The dancing cannot save this film. They make soap operas look Oscar worthy. I was actually insulted by how terrible the acting was. Perhaps some training and an acting coach might have helped a little. Within 10 minutes I turned the film off and wish I could zap the memory from the horrible image of 'schmacting' like some cheap stale perfume in a rent by the hour motel.
