So now we get the story possibly one percent of one percent of one percent of movie goers wanted. A prequel. Turns out the pinheads from episodes 1 - 3 of this repugnant series tells the story of how they were in an asylum, killed everyone and still live there. ENTER: moronic city dwellers (including a pair of lipstick lesbians for a little titillation). This time, no one survives (I just saved you some time in your life) and the last scene is a rip off of 2001 Maniacs, where the last two survivors get decapitated, their heads carried off. In this case likely for soup (and one of them is one of the lesbians, continuing Hollywoods murderous way of dealing with homosexual characters, and she's black. So double whammy.) Lame. Lame. Lame.

In Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings, we get to see the start of how the cannibals came to be who and where they are in the Wrong Turn films 1-3. I thought this was quite a good idea at first, until I actually sat and watched the film.In Bloody Beginnings, we are given gore, decapitation, and more gore. That's pretty much all this film is.A group of college students go on a winter get away, but get lost on their snow mobiles. They manage to find a sanatorium where they take refuge for the night. Unknowing of the danger that lurks within, they party, drink and wake up in the morning one less, only to discover the danger lurking within the shadows. Now, I thought this was going to be a really good film. I thought that a prequel film to the original three films would bring some more light to the cannibals and their story. Although this did happen at the start of the film, with some insight to them and their beginnings, but it didn't tell us anything more other than how they ended up running the sanatorium. The rest of this film is just gore, bad CGI and horrible acting. I'm not sure what Declan O'Brien was trying to do with this film. The premise is a good one, but what they did within the film was just a let down. There is a lot that could have been done with this, but it just became a casual survival horror that lived up to nearly every trope of the book.Haunted / evil sanatorium – check Lesbian sex scene to drag in male viewers – check Teenagers partying, having sex, getting drunk – check Drunk teenagers unleashing an evil "force" - check Bad acting, too much gore, and horrible CGI – checkOverall, the first two films in the series are the best to watch. This was just a massive let down, and I'm wondering why I bothered watching films five and six after watching this one. It was just a big let down, and I can't help but sigh thinking back on it to write this review.

Wrong Turn 4 (2011) ** 1/2 (out of 4) A group of friends go out for a snowmobiling trip when they get lost looking for a cabin. With a major snow storm coming in they decide to take shelter at an abandoned mental sanatorium but they don't realize that there are three mutant cannibals inside.Writer-director Declan O'Brien certainly makes up for the incredibly awful WRONG TURN 3 by making a pretty darn good slasher that manages to give us some likable characters and some memorable gore scenes. When I noticed that the same person behind the previous film was doing this one I was extremely nervous but I wonder if the filmmakers saw the problems with the third film and decided to fix them here because there's no doubt that everything is much better in this fourth outing. For starters, changing up the formula by getting out of the woods and entering an indoor location helped. Some might say this isn't a "WRONG TURN movie" but I'd argue that the series needed a change and it actually works here. Another major plus is that all nine of the humans and the three mutants are well-written and likable. I think it always helps a horror film like this one when you've got characters that you like and ones that you can root for because that helps keep you mentally into the movie. We get the typical stereotypes but the actors do a nice job in their roles and help bring them to life. Even the three mutants are much better here as they've each got a personality and there's no question that you hate them and want to see them get theirs. The biggest improvement with WRONG TURN 4 are the kill scenes. While there are still some really bad looking CGI effects, they've also went back to some practical ones and they look extremely good. It certainly helps that we're given some extremely brutal, graphic but original death scenes including the highlight of the movie a torture sequence where one poor man is tied down, skinned and eaten while he watches. Most squeamish people will be losing during this sequence. There are countless other body parts being chopped off, stabbings and other brutalities that will appeal to those who seek out gore.WRONG TURN 4 follows a horrid entry in the series and this at least helps get it back on track.

Story: We start by seeing a tour of the mental hospital where we find our cannibals locked up only for them to escape and leaving the hospital in the hands of the other mental patients. This completes the origin story for our cannibals a less than 10 minute introduction in a film that is called 'Bloody Beginning'. Next up we meet the group of college students who are off for a weekend snowboarding but after they get lost looking for their location they take up shelter in the now abandoned mental home. Overnight the group gets attacked and haunted by the group of now grown up cannibals. We have to see who will make it out alive. With what should be a longer origin story it really is just a glorified escape plan. The group of college students are hugely unlikable and put in way too much fake screaming and crying. This story will having screaming at the screen 'STOP BEING F*CKING IDOITS' because they make so many mistakes and constantly contradict what they just said about doing. They even have a chance to kill the cannibals and don't use it, 'hello these mad man have just butchered and eaten your friends but you want them to lock them up and let the police who you can't get hold off sort them out'. This story has so many things wrong with it, it is unbelievable. (2/10)Actor ReviewJennifer Pudavick: Kenia I believe she is meant to be the smart one of the group, who gets easily scared and doesn't want to deal with the pranks of the others. She keeps coming up with plans but never follows through with any of them and nearly every one she plans ends up with somebody dying. Jennifer gives a terrible lead performance with fake screaming and crying throughout. (3/10)Tenika Davis: Sara part of the group and along with her girlfriend is on the trip to have a good time. Seems to be the one willing to fight most of all the group, she also stays loyal to her friends. Tenika gives a poor performance never convinces and seems to be forced into two unnecessary lesbian love scenes. (3/10)Kaitlyn Leeb: Bridget girlfriend of Sara who is on the trip for a good time. In a weird way she is the only one who makes sense and just wants to leave, but no one will listen to her, she does show a lack of loyalty to her friends. Kailyn gives a poor performance as she never looks like she is in the right film. (3/10)Support Cast: Filled with other friends who all make disposable characters and the cannibals who make for good hunters you actually cheer for by the end.Director Review: Declan O'Brien – Taking the franchise the wrong way here, he is making the films worse and ruining what was starting to get good. (3/10)Horror: Loses a lot of horror aspects but still has plenty of blood and gore. (5/10) Thriller: Doesn't pull you in as much as it should do. (2/10) Settings: Isolation side of the story is created and moving the location to a mental facility over the mountain ranges. (10/10) Special Effects: Mix of effects throughout starting strong but then falling into sloppy CGI. (3/10) Suggestion: I think even if you are a fan of the franchise you will struggle to enjoy this one. (Avoid) Best Part: Hard to pick one Worst Part: Characters Stupid Decisions Believability: No (0/10) Chances of Tears: No (0/10) Chances of Sequel: 2 More on the way Post Credits Scene: NoOscar Chances: No Runtime: 1 Hour 33 Minutes Tagline: These hillbillies are going crazyOverall: Disappoints GreatlyCheck out more reviews on http://moviesreview101.com/
