Extraordinary Measures

Working-class father John Crowley is finally on the fast track to corporate success when his two young children are diagnosed with Pompe disease—a condition that prevents the body from breaking down sugar. It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional

This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.

The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.

How can you not get emotional about parents crying to save the lives of their children in wheel chairs with drippy music playing in the background? If you aren't burnt out by after-school specials, then this movie is for you. Fraser delivers in a serious role. The movie uses the special relationship a father has with his daughter in order to move him to seek out a cure for Pompe. His son, who also has the illness, is marginalized in this film. Fraser, as en executive seeks out the help of anti-establishment Deadhead Dr. Stonehill, (loosely based on the real life Dr. Canfield) who has the best research on the subject. In real life Dr. Canfield had founded his own company and Fraser (Crowley) left his job to go work at this smaller firm, but that doesn't make good drama, as kids dying in wheel chairs isn't enough of an emotional roller coaster ride for us. The movie shifts gears and focuses on the internal conflicts at the research center which likewise didn't exist. In reality I got more choked up when Darth Vader died.

I do not find movie about sick children entertaining, Even less so, if based on a real story of suffering. I stumbled upon this movie on TV and thinking it was a thriller I started watching it. Big mistake. Turned out, it was the "fictional" version of the story of a rich guy with two children, sick with a rare genetic disease and his efforts to save them. Very noble in the intent, but noble intents do not necessarily make good movies. If anything, this is a very manipulative one, in between the fine line dividing inspirational and delusional. A documentary would have been more appropriate. Brendan Fraser never looked puffier.

This movie pretends to be a true story of how a couple with children dying of a certain disease try to help scientists to find a cure for their children. The movie gives every impression of being based on real facts. However in the film a major player is a research scientist, one Dr Stonehill, played by Harrison Ford. No such person did or does exist and the whole character and scenario is a total fabrication. Roger Ebert when reviewing the movie says:"Dr. Robert Stonehill doesn't exist in real life. The Pompe cure was developed by Dr. Yuan-Tsong Chen and his colleagues while he was at Duke University. He is now director of the Institute of Biomedical Science in Taiwan. Harrison Ford, as this film's executive producer, perhaps saw Stonehill as a plum role for himself; a rewrite was necessary because he couldn't very well play Dr. Chen. The real Chen, a Taiwan University graduate, worked his way up at Duke from a residency to professor and chief of medical genetics at the Duke University Medical Center. He has been mentioned as a Nobel candidate."It a total disgrace that the film makers produce a movie purporting to be a true account, when in reality a large slice of the film is pure invention to suit the executive producer.I sat through the whole movie and might of given 6/10, but when I discovered the unforgivable deception outlined above I took off 5 points.Unbelievable the depths of cheating the film industry will stoop to:1/10.

This movie has helped me so much, as a 18 year old who is starting a business this movie has gave me so much inspiration. Any business person or someone who is going to go in to business needs to watch this movie, I tell you now it will help you so much. The process of needing something but not being able to get it because you have to cross a mountain or two. This is the same as starting a business, its very stressful however if you believe in your self and you have a drive to succeed then you should not let anything stop you and this is what the whole movie is motivating. Motivation and Drive to Succeed!Best Regards, Sufian Hassan
