Yawn. Poorly Filmed Snooze Fest.
I wanted to but couldn't!
Best movie ever!
If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
Hectic-paced comedy classic. Russell and Grant are fantastic. Dialogue travels at 100 miles a minute! And it manages to take pot-shots at tabloid journalism and corrupt cops and politicians with the romance taking the backseat to the goings-on. Twice ironical reference is made to real names - Grant describes Russell's fiancé Bruce as looking like Ralph Bellamy and later he refers to Archie Leech, Grant's real name of course. All good fun and the miracle is that the pace keeps at bay the nasty reality of the crime and all that ensues. Is this movie almost without any score? I only noticed music at the end. It was as if it would only have been a distraction otherwise! The dialogue took up every second of the soundtrack! (viewed 11/16)
This film felt very promising in the beginning with the fast pace comedy and witty banter between Hildy and Walter. This pace eventually became too much at one point and couldn't wait for the film to be over. The characters were pretty annoying except for Bruce. I also found the side plot with the escaped prisoner distracting and unnecessary.
I found this film to be a wonderful film. It was an easy movie to watch. There were moments of humor, romance, action, and even some suspense. It had just about everything you could want in a movie. On top of that the female lead was strong-willed and was one of the best parts of the film. This would be a great film to watch if your not accustomed to black and white movies due to the range of genre the film has. There is something for everyone to enjoy.
His Girl Friday was a joy to watch! The acting from Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell was perfect for this film. It moves very fast and didn't have a dull moment. The film seemed modern in the way the plot advanced and the dialogue the two exchanged throughout. I enjoyed the outfit Rosalind Russell wore in the first scene, I think it showed her character right off the bat. If you're looking for a truly funny face paced screwball comedy this film is the one to watch.
