A perfect mother lives/juggles a perfect life with a perfect job and perfect family but it's all threatened when she gets the hots for Pierce Brosnan as a merchant banker. Note that 'Merchant Banker' is rhyming slang. Some novelty is provided by interspersed discussions of SJP's 'character' by various acquaintances, who 'don't know how she does it'.It was 2011 when this was made. I did wonder how the writers thought Powerpoint presentations - and financial ones at that - were in any way more engaging with SJP presenting them. There is no suspense in this movie at all, because it's a Cinderella fantasy. It's slack, droopy and flaccid. You can tell how bad it is by the way that Kelsey Grammar actually manages to let the Frasier 'indignant parrot' persona drop for a few seconds - and that's the best thing in it.

I enjoyed the lightweight book "I don't know how she does it" when I read it and was excited to see a movie being made about it. Unfortunately, the previews were better than the movie itself. The movie itself did not draw me in to care about the characters the way the book did. This could be due to the time constraints of the silver screen, but I think it was more due to a poor screenplay adaptation that introduced too many characters with too little development. I also disliked how the characters frequently broke the 4th wall, giving the movie a cheap and overly cheesy feel.Another poor decision in the making of this movie seems to be the use of established actors and actresses (Pierce Brosnan, Sarah Jessica Parker, Christina Hendricks, Olivia Munn) in the cast. I think the casting decisions were meat to help draw viewers to the box office, but the film was poorly cast with chemistry that fizzled almost as soon as the movie began rolling.Regarding the female lead, SJP has never impressed me as an actress, and while she became Carrie Bradshaw in SATC over a decade, she does not translate well to the big screen. I've seen her in The Family Stone, Failure to Launch, and now "I don't know how she does it", and she has failed to be someone I like or sympathize with in any role. She acted particularly silly for someone who is supposed to be an investment banker in "I don't know . . ." and I found myself rolling my eyes at the ridiculous screech/scream that she somehow happens to sneak into any role she plays.Very disappointing movie . . .

I don't see why people today can't just appreciate a light hearted, feel good movie like this and analyze it to death. This is not Inception. This movie will not make you think deep thoughts. It is Sarah Jessica Parker doing what she does best and making you want to make her your best friend. Is there much of a plot? No. Does there really need to be in the age of Transformers? No. If you love SATC and SJP I can't imagine that you wouldn't enjoy this movie also. Honestly I thought Greg Kinnear was not a good choice for spouse, although I do like him I just thought there wasn't much chemistry between the two. Pierce was excellent, as always. This man continues to get better with age. He looks elegant and charismatic and you can still imagine him in the Bond role. Now, SJP and Pierce had chemistry! I rented this when my air conditioned went out at my house and the Batman movie shootings had recently happened so I really needed a movie to relax and escape to while watching. Don't believe all the bad reviews!

Imagine this: The movie Jerry McGuire with a female lead. Geraldine McGuire, if you will. Exceedingly loves her job. Has a great spouse/boyfriend. Her male co-workers want to sleep with her because she is so strong, ambitious and charmingly assertive. Goofy sometimes. Works in a tyrannical environment. Juggles ceaselessly. Oh wait, she also has 2 kids (unlike Jerry). If you find Geraldine incredible to like, congrats. You just passed the test of suffering from male chauvinism (regardless of your gender). Why does a movie with a female lead who loves her job as much as her spouse does, can't bake a cake (yet tries to), healthily flirts with her colleague but in end makes the choice of being with family over her her big career break seem so unfathomably incredulous to people? Movies are fiction. Women don't run around in heels every minute of the day and men don't have zero dialogue with 19 year old nannies. But if one has to watch a woman protagonist, why do people suddenly seem to apply all the logic in their capacities on even the mildest humour.Whatever happened to going to movies with the prospect of transcending into a resort of surrealism? In this case, a woman who had a same 'problems' as Jerry McGuire did.We liked Jerry McQuire obsess over work, flirt around with females and find family's love in the end, didn't we? Then why not Geraldine?
