Load of rubbish!!
It's an amazing and heartbreaking story.
It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
It Takes Two (1995): Dir: Andy Tennant / Cast: Ashley Olsen, Mary- Kate Olsen, Steve Guttenberg, Kirstie Alley, Jane Sibbett: Shameless remake of The Parent Trap about teamwork and collaboration between two scheming girls who happen to be twins. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will obviously play opposite. One belongs to a wealthy household who arrives home to the news that her father is engaged to a snob. The other is an orphan sent to summer camp with her caseworker. The camp is located across the lake and both girls switch places to match her father up with the case worker. Directed by Andy Tennant with beautiful photography. Story is predictable and corny with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen rehearsing The Parent Trap. Is it any surprise that they accomplish their mission? Kirstie Alley and Steve Guttenberg have done better and will hopefully get over this pothole of a film. Jane Sibbett plays the snotty new woman whom Guttenberg feels the need to profess marriage to. These films are a dime a dozen and are aimed at young girls who will hopefully grow up to understand what a crock of sh*t this xerox charade really is. The film's purpose is to cash in the popularity of the Olsen twins who gained major popularity in the sitcom Full House. On the big screen they seem very small outside their sitcom universe. After about fifteen minutes of this then nausea should kick in. Score: 3 / 10
For all of us dads who got THAT look from their wives indicating that they WILL sit down and watch It Takes Two with their daughters, there's comfort in knowing that, if one is really sneaky, one can hide a book in the living room and relieve some of the boredom.Which is the primary emotion I felt watching this tweener garbage. There's one, exactly one funny line in It Takes Two, a lame, sort-of copy of The Parent Trap, with the Olsen Twins, Steve Guttenberg, and Kirstie Alley. Alley is trying to pull herself together to impress Guttenberg on a date (or something) and, in order to get a PG instead of the dreaded G, she grabs her breasts, pushes them up and pep talks something like, "Okay, girls. Are you ready?" That is the sum total of the wit and wisdom of this brainless kiddie flick. I'd like to say that I was able to get in some good reading while sitting with my daughter some years ago, but I'd be lying. The wife sat with us and kept me from getting to the book I had stashed under the sofa cushion.
This film is by far the best work of the Olsen Twins. If you think that all Mary-Kate and Ashley movies are girly and lack substance, this movie defies that stereotype. IF YOU ONLY WATCH ONE MARY-KATE AND ASHLEY MOVIE, THIS IS THE ONE TO SEE! Not to mention, of course, this movie has Kirstie Alley in it. What more could you ask? Well, there's more; Do you remember the actress who played Ross Geller's ex-wife, Carol, on "Friends"? Jane Sibbett plays the despicable gold digger Clarise Kensington who's only wish is to get the wealthy Roger Callaway (Steve Guttenburg) and his immense fortune all to herself. The twins play the lovable Amanda and Alyssa - identical strangers. "It Takes Two" is the best movie about twins along with Lindsay Lohan's "The Parent Trap". Definitely the family movie (not the same as a children's movie) of the year. If anything, it won a Kid's Choice Award.
