The first must-see film of the year.
Easily the biggest piece of Right wing non sense propaganda I ever saw.
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
As my headline says there are some good bits along the way, James Marsden and Cameron Diaz are credible in the lead roles while Frank Langella brings his usual quiet dignified charisma in his performance. There is a certainly, especially in the first half an air of creepiness to the film, but the solution to the mystery and the general back story is not particularly interesting and frankly a mess.
I can't imagine why I wasted so much time watching this drelk, I guess it was some kind of morbid curiosity. After the first twenty minutes I knew better but I was transfixed like a frog in a flashlight beam, I knew it wouldn't get any better but there I was hoping that somehow it would, it didn't.I answered no to if my review contained spoilers, but the truth of the matter is that the movie itself is spoiled like fish forgotten the trunk of your car, it stinks only scratches the surface of the reality of the situation.
What we have with the box is a neat idea of the moral dilemma but i'm afraid it fails to deliver. There are supporting characters that are not fleshed out as to their role in the story, it's hinted at but not made clear is it Sci-fi, supernatural, or government who is running the show who knows ? The premises is simply pointed out from Arlington Steward at the start Press that button and someone you don't know will die and you get $1 million that's it. So it's a simple choice press the button or not that's the deal or is it ?The death of "someone you don't know" plot point seems to be clumsily shoehorned in by a late introduction of another character suggesting that Norma may have been responsible for that death. Then we have characters who it's seems are puppets, "employees" or even followers of Arlington Steward, but this is never explained, or could it be that everyone is tripping on some sort of substance.Near the climax of the movie we have another plot point where Norma and Arthur's son all of a sudden is made deaf and blind through some sort of kidnapping and ritual but this was not set out as a consequence by Arlington Steward from the outset. So Arlington Steward has a new deal for them which in turn connects a new couple who now have he button. There is a serious lack of attention to detail here in the story narration, it's like the director knows whats going on and assumes we do also. I have seen the box twice now and on both occasions i nodded off that's how engaging it is.
The Box is built upon a great concept. The idea that a button could end a life and in return you receive 1million in cash. It seems like an offer that could come with one very obvious complication. But as Norma and Arthur Lewis find out, it comes with many. The film gripped me from the offset, as soon as we see a mysterious package delivered to the door for Norma to find you could tell their lives were going to change. The film explores the greed of humanity although we never see that from our two protagonists. It also explores how far people will go to save someone they love but also how disposable a life can be when you don't know the person.Perhaps the thing that impressed me most about the film was the way things come full circle, the events we see at the beginning of the film make sense at the end. We aren't left with unanswered questions and the film wraps up beautifully. but that's not to say the ending is the happiest i've ever seenOverall i'd highly recommend this film to anyone who likes mystery and science fiction, I give this film a 7/10.
