i must have seen a different film!!
I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
This was a good book, I enjoyed the movie too, a decent enough adaption of another Nicholas Sparks romance. I think it could have benefited from being slightly longer as some of the major plot points were glazed over but on that note I wonder if I would have thought the same thing if I hadn't read the book first? Anyways, Zac Efron is nice to look at and does a good job as a slightly PSD'd Iraq war veteran who returns from his third tour of duty and tracks down the woman from a photo he credits with keeping him alive. His good luck charm, a woman he doesn't know but who he soon suspects may be the love of his life.I enjoyed quite a few things about this movie; it's beautifully shot; sunlight filtering through trees in Louisiana. I liked Blythe Danner as the grandma, I liked the relationship 'Logan' develops with Beth's son, playing chess and the sweet scene where he gets the courage to play violin in church. Taylor Schilling was good as the love interest too, she had several emotional scenes to get through. And Jay R. Ferguson does a great job as the bad guy/sheriff/ex-husband. He is a character that you can easily hate, which is always fun.My favorite scene in this movie would be when Logan "schools" 'Keith' disarming the drunken bully on a crowded street, all the while maintaining his cool and making Beth's ex the Sheriff look like a total ass.I was disappointed with the "exciting" climax though; a storm, rising flood waters, a child trapped on a wooden bridge and both men fighting through the waters. This had a hugely suspenseful build up in the book and for a while you're not even sure who survives. Here the whole scene is done and dusted in about 5 minutes. Lame. 6 /14/15
I'm a sap for a good love story, and I have three requirements for a romance film:1. The two main characters have to be, nice, well written characters who are played by good actors. Check.2. It has to have an interesting storyline. Check.3. The two main actors ABSOLUTELY MUST have chemistry. Erm.... no.I don't understand who two good actors (Yes, Taylor Schilling and Zac Efron ARE good actors) just don't have chemistry. I honestly didn't believe that they were really into each other, and every time they kissed, it just felt so forced.
The Lucky One (2012): Dir: Scott Hicks / Cast: Zac Efron, Taylor Schilling, Jay R. Ferguson, Blythe Danner, Riley Thomas Stewart: The title can refer to Zac Efron who plays a soldier sent home to find the woman in a photograph that saved his life in a crucial moment. It can also refer to Taylor Schilling whose brother was killed in battle and ends up meeting Efron who applies for a job for the pet training place where she works. At any rate, the title doesn't refer to the audience. It is obvious that the picture that Efron finds had belonged to her brother but the film jerks us around with the truth never surfacing until that pitiful moment where viewers are suppose to care. This is formula crap straight through every predictable cliché. Scott Hicks made another mediocre romance called No Reservations but that film is gold along side this junk. Hicks films great opening war footage then the production becomes basic melodrama bullshit. Efron and Schilling bang each other in the shower, in bed, and anywhere else and their passion is pure nonsense. Jay R. Ferguson as Schilling's abusive ex who is the father of her kid is completely over the top. From the first moment he appears on screen as the cop who is son of higher power, he comes off as a snotty, spoiled high school bully. Blythe Danner plays Schilling's grandmother who is the voice of reason but her drunken scene seems inspired by the material she is given to begin with. This is one of the worst pieces of garbage conjured together that is slapped with the title of romance. If you are fortunate enough to miss this film then you are the ultimate lucky one. Score: 2 / 10
The movie is based on a novel written by Nicholas Sparks (The notebook, Dear John, A walk to Remember, etc.) and follows marine soldier Logan, who, during a battle in the Iraq war, discovers a photo of a woman on the ground beside some debris. The action to pick up the photo manages to save Logan's life from a rocket blast which hits the ground around 10 meters from where he is standing. After this he manages to survive even another bombing (he really is lucky), and this puts him on the quest to travel to find the woman in the photograph, because he believes she is the reason for him being alive. The opening scenes which is almost too short, sets of the movie. And when i say too short, i mean they are too rushed. The sequences goes so fast that we don't manage to connect with the emotions of the scenes. ( How does it feel to be in a war?). If they had used more time, it would give the protagonist (and us) a deeper compassion for the character being involved. But since this movie is only a romance, they fast forward until we come to the cozy part. The rest of The movie follows the same basic formula which we have seen in a dozen of romance-movies before this. If you have seen any of the movie adaptations of Nicholas Sparks' novels, you know what you're getting in too. For myself, i liked it. I have always been a sucker for romance, and when a movie delivers the goods, i'm satisfied. It doesn't really matter if a movie is original or not, as long as it manages to convey something people can connect with. When it comes to The acting, they all gave solid performances. Zac Efron manages to give his character Logan, a charming touch without overdoing it; Taylor Schilling as his love- interest, gives the movie sweetness, and at the same time an emotional depth to the overall plot. I especially liked the scenes between she and Efron. The other actors did also do a great job (within their frames). All in all it was an enjoyable movie. It delivers what it promises and will most likely satisfy its target audience; which are teenage girls (and the "sucker for romance" dudes like me).
