A very feeble attempt at affirmatie action
At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
I truly liked this movie! Not really scary nor complex in any way. Just simple and entertaining. Something totally different from the average horror movies these days. The movie contains something very sinister. I also really liked the guy who played dawai.
I had no idea what to expect going into this film. I refrained from looking it up on IMDb prior to watching, and I didn't recognize any of the characters at first. This may be the first role Sean Young has ever had that she didn't COMPLETELY screw up. Now, before you jump all over me, Sean Young fans, it's OK for you to like her. I simply can't stand her. Most of the time, she'd be hard-pressed to act her way out of a paper bag. Her turn as our protagonist's spiteful, evil mother is pretty darn good. I wish she'd gotten more coaching on her accent - it was atrocious, and it seemed that the longer the film went on, the worse it got.And by evil I mean mean-spirited and nasty, not supernatural evil. You'll have to watch this film yourself to decide which parts you think are supernatural and which parts are interesting explorations into small community hysteria. Overall I was really impressed, and I would like to see more out of Chad Crawford Kinkle.
There is a lot to commend in this film, we don't start with a young married couple with children moving into a very expensive house they got half price. All the protagonists, already know the "horror" and the story starts in a unique place compared to the last hundred horror films I've seen.In fact due to its start and its premises I so much wanted this film to be good. But unfortunately that's all this film has to offer. The plot is weaker than a drop of whiskey in jam jar. The destination the same place a dead end road arrives at. Its as if the director and the script writers didn't really understand how good an idea they had.The cast do a great job of making real people without stereotyping, but they are ultimately let down by a very weak script in the third part of the film.I found the film ultimately boring and just didn't go anyway , just repeating itself a great idea just not used. This had a false start but its going in the right direction, lets hope the next generation of horror films go for braver and more original material, just like jug face.
A reclusive backwoods society maintains their way of life by making sacrifices to an unspecified monster. When a teenage girl discovers both that she is pregnant and she's the next sacrifice, she tries to escape her fate. Some blood, but mostly just creepy and sees the ending through with more focus than A-List movies. Acting is not just serviceable but good, especially since it deals with backwoods archetypes that it's hard to not turn into a parody. This thing is deadly serious and realistically portrayed even with the supernatural elements.Good movie - kind of a different take on "Winter's Bone" if you liked that. Check it out.
