what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

Much like everyone else on this planet I grew up watching Scooby Doo, and have since seen many of the countless TV shows and movies over the years. My son and I ended up catching The Mystery Begins one night on Cartoon Network, and my son and I instantly fell in love with it. For a CN movie I wasn't expecting much, but I couldn't believe how good it actually turned out to be. I was never really a fan of the two big budget films that were released in the 2000's. I didn't like the cast. I didn't like the story. The whole thing just felt wrong, and I felt that Scooby and his gang deserved a better representation. Well they got it with this movie. The effects are really bad, but the cast more than makes up for it with their superb performances. I feel like all four of the main cast were born to play these roles. Unlike the big budget Scooby films where those actors couldn't have been more wrong, these four couldn't have been more right. Things can get a bit silly at times, but it wouldn't be Scooby Doo otherwise. The plot is simple, and easy for kids to follow with plenty of twists and turns along the way to keep you interested. This movie came out in 2009, and Robbie Amell seems to be the only one of the main cast to go on to other notable things, and that really is a shame because this group of actors are really talented. Their chemistry, specifically between each other, really comes across on screen, and really that's the most important thing for a Scooby Doo movie to get right. My only real complaint, and it is a minor one, is that Fred's hair isn't blonde, but other than that it really is a great movie that the whole family can sit down and enjoy together. I'd recommend it for kids and families or just any fan of Scooby Doo. A solid 10 out of 10.

After SCOOBY-DOO 2: MONSTERS UNLEASHED, a third SCOOBY-DOO sequel was announced for a release date. However, after the release of SCOOBY-DOO 2, Warner Bros. felt that the film should have made money, so the production of SCOOBY-DOO 3 was cancelled. However, after a five-year absence from the big screen, Scooby-Doo and the gang would return in a prequel to the first two films, titled SCOOBY-DOO: THE MYSTERY BEGINS, released in 2009 and it is a direct to video sequel. The film is a prequel showing how Fred, Daphne, Shaggy, Velma and Scooby-Doo became Mystery, Inc, how they met and the events of their very first case. The story is okay and the first two SCOOBY-DOO films were kid-friendly, so this film is a little dark and still kid-friendly. The film is directed by Brian Levant and he done a really great job. The script is written by whoever the writer was for this film. You already know the characters, so I will say that the cast was cool and amazing in these roles, but I wish that the original cast would come back and do this film. I have to say, these four actors, playing the four teens are amazing and Frank Welker does the voice of Scooby- Doo.The music is scored by Oscar-nominee David Newman, who previously scored the other two films and Lorena Gale, who died during production of this film plays the Librarian and she did a really good job.Overall, SCOOBY-DOO: THE MYSTERY BEGINS is not the worst prequel, but I definitely enjoyed it and it was spectacular to see their first case on screen.10/10 - THIS IS ONE MOVIE THAT IS A GREAT PREQUEL TO THE FIRST TWO SCOOBY-DOO FILMS IN THE "Scooby-Doo" MOVIE FRANCHISE.

Since the Starwars prequels, every fictional character we're familiar with is sooner or later gets the "Somebody Begins" treatment. It's Scooby's turn; he's a rejected dog at a pet adoption, and starts a brawl on a school bus. Fred, Daphne, Shaggy, and Velma all get (wrongly) blamed, thus uniting them when they have to serve detention time. This gives the Mystery Inc. gang an aura of being inept underdogs, which doesn't quite fit them; still, the opening is tied in nicely with their debut case: who is behind the haunting of a Coolsville High pep rally? A cast of relative newcomers play the intrepid crime solvers, and do pretty well. The actors playing Velma and Shaggy do the best, and show promise. Fred and Daphne were kind of bland, but better than Prinze and Geller in those roles in the big-bucks Scooby flicks. Scooby himself is animated and voiced well. Most of the original routines from the cartoon series are sent up fondly with the goofy spirit of the original. True to form, the story has both ghosts and masquerading suspects. The mystery itself is kind of obvious (few suspects, rapid exonerations), but it's all just for laughs anyway. The case doesn't really matter.Fun for kids or kids-at-heart.

I loved the cartoons growing up, I hated scrappy Doo. So obviously I loved Spooky Island. It stayed very true to the story and the cast of Scooby Doo. I liked Monsters Unleashed but to a lesser extent. I thought this was going to be a great addition to the live action Scabby Doo movies. I went in expecting less in the way of plot and acting, since it was cartoon network and no namers... I was actually surprised with the abilities of some of the cast. The movie was a bust for me though because it defiled the origins of scooby doo when it was meant to revisit them. In the original, the mystery van was Shaggy's. He was a hippie stoner with a avocado green van to match his shirt and it had flowers on it because thats what pacifist hippie love children were all about. (spoiler begins here) Here they tell us its the Gardner's van from Daphne's Dad's Estate which she will get as her first vehicle when she learns to drive. What the Hello Kitty? Daphne in the original is a clumsy bubble head who is too overly concerned about her appearance to notice the danger going on around her and the only time she contributes is through some accidental slip up. The new Daphne is a rich débutante, who for some reason rides the bus to school, and is in the drama club, thinks jocks are stupid and is pretty intelligent. Shaggy... OK.. he's just how he's supposed to be. Good job on shaggy! Velma... also great job. True to the original character. Fred in the original movie was Daphne's male equivalent. He was all about looking good and not the sharpest tool in the shed. He also was too into himself to ever really take notice of Daphne in s sexual way. The new Fred is a Jock, but very sensitive and concerned about others. He's into Daphne and there's a sexual tension between them as he feigns disinterest. The original Scooby was named after Frank Sinatra's add lib scat lyrics at the end of "Strangers in the Night" He was adopted by shaggy as a puppy and shaggy and scooby had an inseparable bond only a dog and his master could share and they know each others thoughts and feelings. The new scooby is a pound dog reject and his name is Scoobert. Shaggy finds him when he's a grown dog, and basically doesn't know scooby any longer than the rest of the gang does. New Scooby is also far more brave than the original. Original scooby snacks are mass marketed boxed dog biscuits that can be purchased at the store. The new scooby snacks are hand baked confections created by Shaggy using dog kibble and coco... COCO is poisonous to dogs! WHAT IDIOT CAME UP WITH THAT? not only does it destroy the concept of scooby snacks, but if anyone tried to follow that recipe for dog treats they would kill their dog! Also please note that there's no way on gods green earth that those actors can pull off being sophomores in high-school. Even shaggy being held back 2 grades can't pull off being the age of a 17 year old.
