best movie i've ever seen.
This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
I'm proof of how this movie is forgettable: I had the misfortune to watch this thing in theater with my dad 10 years ago and I forgot absolutely everything in this movie only 2 hours after leaving the theater. I only remembered its existence literely now, when I saw this poster. The story, which I obviously don't remember too, is about animals that escape from a zoo and the old nonsense conflicts between father and son. We also had to endure this boring conflict with "Chicken Little," another atrocious Disney film, but more memorable - although I don't know if that's an advantage. The characters are ridiculous and dull imitations of Madagascar and The Lion King. I mean, look well for the design these animals. They just look so boring and generic.
I seen this before on TV so I got it on DVD because well I was trying to collect some of the Disney movies that I didn't own. So just to let you all know this is Disney's 46th Animated movie only in Ireland, the UK and Sweden. Everywhere else its Dinosaur that's in the animated Disney canon and not this one. Why I may never know but anyways back to the review. This movie tells the tale of a lion who's son ends up being lost and its up to Samson(voiced by Kiefer Sutherland)and his mates(including a British Koala,a giraffe,a squirrel who is having a crush on the giraffe, and a snake)to find Samson's son by going on a trip to New York City to track him down. Now what did I think of this movie, well to be honest the animation was good as it felt very real to look at and the score done by Alan Silvestri was great to(he also did the score for Lilo & Stitch another great film too). And now for the bad the story is basically ripping off The Lion king(with Mufassa and the stampedes and Simba, while in this movie The Wild we see Samson using his claws to hold onto the cliff, and the stampedes trying to get him),Finding Nemo(where Merlin was out to look for his son and in this movie its the lion that's trying to look for his son)and of course Dreamwork's Madagascar which was out after this film was made.Is it Disney's best film NO of course not,as its just a complete rip off of all those films that I have mentioned.Overall it wasn't that bad and if you have younger kids than check it out. For the rest of you look elsewhere and rent Finding Nemo or Madagascar instead of it.3/5out of 105.2/10
Decent. This movie-if I were to summarize it in one word-would be decent. Before we progress, I'd like to mention that 5/10 stars is not as horrid as one might suppose. On my charts, it means that I moderately enjoyed the movie. With that in mind, 10/10 is almost impossible to reach, while 9/10 would be reserved to a movie so stellar, that I could watch it one-hundred times and still enjoy it. 1/10 would be so unsatisfactory that the mere sight of such an abhorrent disgrace to cinema would make children cry and grown men cringe. ---If you would like to skip to my summery, thus avoiding my very small spoiler and larger ramble, jump to the final paragraphLet's begin with the characters. Their portrayal was decent, even though for the most part, they were static (the snake, however, was unique I liked the snake). What redeemed them were their lovable personalities, and the clear synergy between each of them while interacting; I personally enjoyed the odds and end gang. With that said, the dialogue was less diverse. I found myself cringing from time to time on the cliché lines uttered by Ryan and his father in particular, while Nigel was-on occasion-so obtuse that I couldn't help but sigh. But perhaps I'm downplaying this movie, as I've seen it through the eyes of an adult. Kids will probably find the dimwittedness of that particular Koala, Nigel, enjoyable and-unless well read-might not pick up on the clichés. However, we're talking about Disney here, and they have an impressive resume when it comes to making their movies enjoyable to both child and parent, without dumbing it down. This leads me to my next point. Since they were confronted by a shortcoming on some of the dialogue between Ryan and his father, they intended to make the movie appealing to us-the parents or older fans of Disney-through the use of mature humor. Though not as blatant as some other 'children movies' I've watched in the past, The Wild has its fair share. Thus is why I ask, confused, why the movie was rated G, and not PG. As for the latter, I have no say in such things, so let's move on.Now, onto the very fabric of the movie itself: I found it needed a few more original songs, and no, dear directors, 'I'm havin' a... really nice day, really nice day' repeated over and over does not count. I did enjoy the Coldplay song at the beginning, however. The storyline itself was jarring, and the use of transition to cover long durations of time was used too often. To counter my negative comment, however, I do applaud the director for attempting to encompass the viewers in the past and present- thus creating a more intimate connection between character and viewer. You would have achieved this wonderfully if only you fixed the pacing! And this leads me onto my final point. I really enjoyed Samson's background story. It was fresh, and when told fully, connected the dots and linked his strange behavior to a logical outcome of an event that transpired in his own childhood. I won't go deeper than that, least I spoil the story!---To conclude, I gave The Wild a 5/10, which is not so bad. It's animated nicely, has some great character chemistry and a good background story for Samson, but loses a few stars because of its occasional cliché lines, less than satisfactory original compositions, and jarred pace. This is by no means a Disney masterpiece, but rest assured that you and your child will find enjoyment in it!'If there be animals inside, expect a review!'~Mike
I saw this movie with a friend in a theater. We wasted 95 minutes of our life that we cannot get back. The movie is very similar to Madagascar. In some parts, the movie resembles Finding Nemo and the Lion King. It's like they put the 3 movies in a blender. The movie is supposed to be funny, but it's not. There's a few bad puns and some sound effects, but those aren't funny. There's a ton of parts of the movie that make no sense. How can a tugboat cross the ocean? Why is a Squirrel in love with a Giraffe? How can Chameleons make things invisible? Why does a Koala have a British accent? The curling scene has to be the worst scene in the movie. All that happens is that a bunch of antelopes run on the ice, and Samson claims that Ryan endangered everybody. How? All the antelopes did was cause Samson to lose. I know that this is a kid's film, but I doubt that most kids would like it. The Wildebeest are frightening, and the song and dance they perform will give most little kids nightmares. The alligator scene would also scare most kids. There's also quite a bit of adult humour in the film. This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Instead of watching this movie, watch Madagascar, Finding Nemo, and the Lion King.
