I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
With a great set of music, performances, and characters. The Blues Brothers is a very strong and well done piece of cinema. This movie is very self aware about how over the top it is and utilizes this perfectly to construct a well crafted and extremely entertaining comedy. This comedic over the top vibe the movie sends gives full creative control to the team behind the movie which enables them to pretty much do whatever they want. (Multiple car crashes, explosions, etc.) There are parts of the movie that do not make sense but these small issues are easily dissmissable to it being part of the over arching joke. I would recommend this movie to every critic and average moviegoer alike. This is quite a broad review and if anyone wants me to be more specific, let me know.
Besides this movie, Animal House is also one of my favorite John Belushi films. But this movie was funny and entertaining from start to finish. Catholics, white supremacists, singers, musicians, chases, stupid antics, all of which take place in the city of Chicago and its surroundings combine to make a good comedy. John Belushi was fun as the chubby brother Jake Blues and Dan Aykroyd as Elwood Blues was basically the voice of reason between the two. Oh, and some celebrity cameos were also in this. What more would you want?
I admit that the main reason this movie is so good is because of how literally real it is. When it shows them destroying the shopping mall, that is an actual shopping mall that's being destroyed. I remember learning about it on Wikipedia's list of unusual articles. It's the Dixie Square Mall which was abandoned before finally being demolished in 2012. All the car pileups that appear are real as well. You have to admire a film that goes that far for the sake of a joke.Apart from that, I really did find myself caring for these characters and couldn't help but be engrossed at how cool they were. I love that this is such an all star cast. It makes me miss Carrie Fisher, but I'm glad to know her for roles other than "Star Wars". Tons of real life musicians appear. It's the awesome music and choreography that's a big part of what makes this movie so good. I love the random explosions. ***1/2
John Landis' fearless anarchistic movie of two brothers who try to raise $5000 to save an orphanage from demolition. The Brothers put their old band back together and go playing on the road with the police and some Nazi's chasing them. Lot's of brilliant dialogue and probably more (police) cars destroyed than in any other movie. Funny and full of action and great music. One can really see that making this movie must have been fun.
