Really Surprised!
Highly Overrated But Still Good
A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
Super disappointed that Lilly's brother Michael doesn't stay her love interest bc that was adorable :/
Never ones to miss an opportunity Disney were very quick to make this sequel after the surprise success of the first. I assume they also wanted to make it before Anne Hathaway got too old to play the role too.As with many a sequel, this one isn't as good as the original. That isn't to say it's not got it moments (Julie Andrews singing again is a huge one) but the plot feels a bit predictable. In fact it feels very similar to the plot of the earlier Disney film 'The Santa Clause 2', only with a Princess needing to find a husband rather than Santa finding a wife. The main selling point of this and the original is Anne Hathaway. I don't think there was ever a doubt that she would go on to bigger and better things. Her performance more than makes up for the slower parts of this film.
This movie lacks everything that was good about Princess Diaries 1 - a witty, honestly funny, smart storyline. They realized they could make a lot of money off of this movie, no matter what crap they put out there; this was the result.I suppose this film has its good moments, which are mostly romantic moments that I enjoyed. But the whole basis of the relationship was preposterous; Mia sure got rid of Michael quickly.I recommend this movie to little girls 11 or younger and who can't afford a more decent movie. To everyone else, skip it or find yourself rolling your eyes every 5 seconds into this cringe-inducing movie.
This movie is typical of the juvenilisation of Hollywood. True, it is a Disney film. But family oriented fare is what Walt produced, not unrealistic simple-minded politically-correct candy-floss.I didn't expect to see a realistic representation of a middle-European kingdom. But Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was far more accurate than this nonsense. There was no sense of realism, or place. The buildings weren't too bad, but the people were too obviously American. Worse, they were hamming it up in a uniquely American way. The antics of the royal guard were particularly ridiculous. The story was illogical. A princess doesn't become Queen just because she marries. The Queen, her grandmother, has to die or abdicate first. If the Queen couldn't marry because of the Law, why does her granddaughter have to marry because of it. Talk about plot inconsistencies! Film makers should learn to build their comedy and story lines within a realistic and consistent framework. A good film cannot result if the producers show contempt for the intelligence of the audiences, and assume all viewers have the brain of a four year old.
