The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

Caught this one on TV -- glad I didn't pay to see it. The Heartbreak Kid is pretty awful.

A man is on his honeymoon with an absolute knockout beauty heart throb, and he decides to divorce her because some more average looking woman tells him she has her spot on the beach.There's nothing to like about this movie, and nothing to care for about this guy. It is hard to say whether this is as poor as THE GRADUATE, but this is pretty much the same movie. A control freak guy simply wants to make the world a worse place for as many people as he can.I sat through it to review it, but that's the only reason to sit through it.Eddie Albert provides the "star" attraction as the father of the average girl next door. His role is poorly written. For some reason, he goes off on a rant at a situation that most men would just laugh at. The Ben Stiller character asks for his blessing to divorce on a honeymoon with a knockout to marry the daughter.This is "par" for the course for Stiller, though, who shows nothing, and who chooses the worst and dullest scripts one can imagine. The saddest thing is that so much money was wasted for something with zero inspiration and imagination, when there are real scripts out there with inspiration and imagination being passed over by self righteous maniacs like Stiller.

Ben Stiller, Michelle Monaghan, Malin Akerman and Jerry Stiller star in this 2007 comedy remake of the 1972 film. Stiller (Zoolander) plays bachelor, Eddie who hasn't found the right woman yet. Ackerman (Couples Retreat) plays Lila, an attractive woman he soon meets and dates. After 6 weeks, Eddie decides to marry her and they go to Mexico for their honeymoon. Soon, Eddie learns he may have made a mistake when Lila is not whom he expected. Eddie secretly finds romance with another woman, Miranda (Monaghan) who eventually learns he's married. The Farrelly Brothers directed this and previously worked with Stiller in "There's Something About Mary." Stiller's father, Jerry (The King of Queens) naturally plays his on screen father, Doc and Danny McBride (Pineapple Express), Scott Wilson (The Walking Dead) & Polly Holliday (Gremlins) also appear. This is a good comedy with a great cast I recommend.

This is one of those movies you can enjoy over and over. The Heartbreak Kid was remade in 2007 based on the original movie in 1972 with the same name. The remake of The Heartbreak Kid stars Ben Stiller, single Eddie who owns a sport shop. Eddie runs into Lila (Malin Akerman), whose purse gets snatched in the street. Eddie unsuccessfully tries to retrieve the purse but in turn he and Lila strike up a serious romance and Lila seems like she is perfect for him. At the announcement of a job she wants to take in Holland, Eddie looks into the matter and discovers the company policy of not relocating married employees, so; at his best friend (Rob Corrdry) and father 's (Jerry Stiller) urging, Eddie proposes and they get married. On their honeymoon, Eddie begins to feel that he made a mistake. To make matters worse, Eddie meets Miranda (Michelle Monaghan).I watched this one on the big screen (by myself as usual). - Asif Zamir
