Highly Overrated But Still Good
An action-packed slog
One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
There's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.
Aside from the lying, sack of $ht,racist, black dude who actually deserved to have his a$$ beat, it was actually an action packed and genuinely funny movie. unfortunately someone thought it was necessary to put some reverse racism war on law enforcement bull$ht in the movie which kind of ruined it. F*k the terrorist liberals and black lives matter bull$ht. if they thought black lives really mattered then they would stop killing each other. It isn't that black lives matter, it is just that white lives don't matter and their jobs don't matter and their right to enforce the law and defend themselves and do what they have been trained to do doesn't matter. get it straight. And by the way, Some cops are really jerk offs but guess what, the real *&%$ off cops usually aren't racist. they usually act like &^%* to everyone alike. I have my own story as proof of that but I'm white so nobody gives a flying f*k. right? I know this review wont be posted but someone is going to read it because it is their job to do so. so i don't care. bye.
National Security (2003): Dir: Dennis Dugan / Cast: Martin Lawrence, Steve Zahn, Eric Roberts, Colm Feore, Robinne Lee: Idiotic comedy that represents unity of race but plays like the umpteenth buddy action film. It stars Steve Zahn as a cop who witnesses the murder of his partner. Martin Lawrence plays a failed trainee who is accidentally locks his keys in his car. When Zahn asks questions he turns it into a racial argument that concludes with Zahn being caught on camera in what appears to be a beating when he is really retaliating at a bee, which Lawrence is allergic too. Zahn spends time in prison thanks to Lawrence's racial arguments. Predictable climax resulting in another failure by Dennis Dugan who has directed such junk as Problem Child and Happy Gilmore. Zahn does what he can with the lifeless material but Lawrence goes into overkill with his racial argument. Both are capable of being funny but this is not intelligent enough material to demonstrate it. Eric Roberts plays the standard villain as if that is any surprise. Colm Feore is also feature, but again here is a talent that is far above this junk. Robinne Lee plays Zahn's ex-girlfriend who broke up with him after he was arrested and now Lawrence must own up to the truth. This is another lame buddy flick in their ever declining quality. This one should be shot to pieces by the millions of bullets fired in this dumb flick. Score: 2 / 10
This movie was so awful I couldn't even finish it. It's a bad buddy cop comedy that relies on unfunny race jokes for the whole film and doesn't attempt to do anything else. It's unfunny, boring, and racist to both whites and blacks, and i'm not one who is easily offended. I actually like Martin Lawrence and I will admit that he had one funny scene a few minutes into the film, but his character quickly becomes obnoxious, bigoted, and annoying that I couldn't stand him. Whats even worse is that the film trys to portray him as a good guy and ask us to root for him despite making his character look look like a total bigot. Steve Zahn does an awful job here and is neither funny or likable. It's no wonder the only work he gets now is starring in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid films. This is a cheap looking awful action comedy that shouldn't be viewed by any means.
I like Martin Lawrence, I thought he was funny in "Martin", "Blue Streak" , and the Bad Boys films. In those films, however Lawrence plays a likable character. In National Security he plays a racist dolt. Lawrence is a security guard who tried and failed to be a LA cop. After a cop played by Steve Zahn mistakenly believes he is trying to steal a car, a bee flies by and Zahn tries to swat it away. It is misconstrued as an act of police brutality and Lawrence lies and gets Zahn thrown in jail.Throughout the movie Lawrence's character is racist, he is also a hypocrite believing that white men shouldn't be with black woman, but if the roles are reversed well, that's just fine. Lawrence's character's actions aren't simply racist against whites but against blacks as well, making whites look racist against blacks and blacks look like race-card playing jerks. If the roles were reversed and Zahn was making stupid quips about blacks this film would be assailed as racist, if it were released at all. Avoid.
