Army of One

Gary Faulkner is an ex-con, unemployed handyman, and modern day Don Quixote who receives a vision from God telling him to capture Osama Bin Laden. If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.

I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.

'Army of One' is one of those movies I wish to liked more. The film is not funny satire nor serious character study. Luckily the film avoids fart jokes and falling into banality. But the screenplay is not very well drawn out, and the character Gary Faulkner (although based on one of the most colorful, but sweet nutjobs in real life) is not very well developed. Alltogether - it lacks enough depth. But now - the real treasure - Nicolas Cage. One of the most peculiar actors throughout film history. One who can pull off highly dedicated and great performances, or can be just entertaining. In 'Army of One', he manages to be both - give great performance and be entertaining without hamming it up. He manages to do the real life Gary Faulkner justice for not doing some over the top parody of craziness. Seriously, one of the best Nicolas Cage performances in recent years, and the film is worth to watch only to see sweet and dedicated performance by great Nic Cage. The screenplay could have been better to justify all the good performances and that fantastic chemistry between the cast. Not very memorable film (besides Nicolas Cage), but entertaining enough to give it a shot at saturday night.

Apart from a few funny and witty scenes, this movie is absurd. Watching the movie i knew what the expect from Larry Charles, he is not new to having bias and backward view on Muslim countries but this was not as subtle as his previous. What KILLS me about this movie are the little jokes and clues he leaves here and there, i have missed on a lot but the scene with "Israel rocks" seems to sort of show where the movie was going. I have no bias opinions but he clearly did specially considering the fact that the character was clearly racist to every culture but when Israel came into the picture he seems to have changed his mind. Another scene that completely get me is when they hold a shot longer than usual on a clothing shop with young headless mannequins hanging by the neck, it was clearly deliberate. There are many mixed views that seem forced, for example the bit with Osama Bin Laden cribs, there was a picture of George bush which can be seen as a humorous irony but considering the direction and hints in the movie, i believe not.

Sadly, apparently this is somewhat a true story. Sad.Gary Faulkner (Nicolas Cage) is told by God (Russell Brand) to go to Pakistan and find and capture Osama Bin Laden. If Mr Cage did not use that ridiculous voice - thinking he was mimicking the real Gary Faulkner - this would not have been as bad as it is. I mean by using his own voice this could have been good, funny and at least watchable and most important of all the Nicolas Cage Impersonators would have been in 7th Heaven. Now they are shaking their collective heads. Sad. We do see the real Gary Faulkner at the end of the movie as he appeared on the TV show The View and in other interviews, and his voice sounded good and nothing like the one used by Nicolas Cage in this Silly, Ridiculous and mostly Annoying movie. It was this voice used by Cage that put this into a tailspin. (If you didn't like this, why did you watch it to the end?)Truth be told I was hoping this would save itself as I do like Nicolas Cage and I was hoping that the Director and other powers that be would see that this voice of Cage's just wasn't working. They didn't see it. Sad. Also it was the out-of-control-behavior Faulkner exhibited that was just as annoying. Using Russell Brand as God was okay, but when this "God" uses foul language then all this falls apart. Couldn't anyone see that? Apparently not. Sad. There is nothing more to be said. This was like being in a nightmare we couldn't get out of. Very sad. If there was ever a story that never had to be told, this is it. (1/10)Violence: Yes, Faulkner gets beat up. Sex: No. Nudity: No. Language: Yes.

Hilarious movie. Can't understand the bad reviews. Cage should get an Oscar for the. most absurd performance ever. Reading the reviews it's like how can they be so serious!? This Is comedy gold. Ridiculous is a good thing.I usually like Nicholas Cage in everything even all his camp movies, but this one takes the cake. He transforms in the weirdest archetype of crazy. Truly clinical madness. Proves Nicolas Cage has more guts then you ever thoughtRussell Brand is perfect in his supporting role as is Wendy Covey.A gem of idiocy.
