I'll tell you why so serious
Good story, Not enough for a whole film
best movie i've ever seen.
This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
You have to be kidding me this movie was poorly executed, direction-less and at best confusing. The plot wandered aimlessly with pointless character development and constant disappointment where the viewer is led down one path then left without resolution. I felt cheated by this movie at every turn especially the conclusion where Brown just drives off, no court case no explanation just blah. Save yourself 108 Min's of your life and do something else like your taxes or poke yourself in the eye, it will be more satisfying than this garbage.
This movie is not very good at all on the front of the DVD case it says "dazzling and stunning...HARRELSON is astonishing well I totally disagree with this. It is a dark movie following L.A. cop Dave brown (Woody Harrelson) going around getting everyone on his bad side and beating people up it is a very badly made movie it does not seem to have a beginning or end it just seems to start half way through a movie then end badly with you not knowing what was even going on Woody Harrelson did some very good acting in a movie called "Friends with benefits" which I highly recommend to watch and he's not the main actor but his performance is professional but anyone thinking about buying this movie I would not recommend buying it and save your money.
Dave Brown (Woody Harrelson) is a brutal Los Angeles police officer from the Rampart Division. The police force is facing many scandals and then Dave beats up a motorist who crashed into his vehicle then ran away. The beating is videotaped by the public and he is under investigation. He has had many questionable actions including the killing of a serial rapist. His personal life is a crazy unorthodox home and sleeping with a mysterious stranger from a bar. We've seen this movie before. It's called 'Training Days'. Before that, it was 'Colors'. And so on. And it's been done better. The major problem is that Woody is by himself too much. He needs a partner to interact with. Woody does a good job, but his character is too single note. The story lack flow. The pacing is monotonous. Woody should do this character, but in another better written cop movie.
Well-acted and well-filmed, "Rampart" is an interesting character study of a corrupt scumbag cop. Its strongest point is that Brown (Harrelson)is far from being a totally stereotypical scumbag cop. I really enjoyed hating him at the beginning, and never exactly came to like him, but this film truly shows how Brown means well, or at least thinks he does, and allows the audience to empathize and maybe even sympathize with him enough to keep "Rampart" from being totally forgettable.Otherwise, I concur with many of the other reviews here. Despite a compelling opening scene, the so-called plot of this film meanders and is very unfulfilling. It might have worked better if Brown had not been placed in semi-suspension from the police force so early in the film and we could see him in action a little more before all the politics and soap operas begin.
