The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."
There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
The problem with Fanboys is that it's an unbalanced mix of locker room humor, science fiction references and attempts at drama. The whole movie seems full of half-baked ideas that were rushed into production. There were a few laugh-out-loud moments and several fun references, but overall I would not recommend seeing this movie.
Watched One Of My All Time Favorite Comedys Fanboys solid Performance by Sam Huntington (Superman Returns) as Eric Bottler. Jay Baruchel(Tropic Thunder) as Windows, Chris Marquette(The Invisible) as Linus, Kristen Bell (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) as Zoe , Danny Trejo (Grindhouse) as Chief ,Seth Rogen(Pineapple Express) as Roach, William Shatner (Star Trek II:Wrath Of Kahn) as Himself also Feautring Several Star Wars Alumni Billy Dee Williams(The Empire Strikes Back) as Judge Reinhold, Carrie Fisher(A New Hope) as Doctor and Ray Park(The Phantom Menace) as THX Security Guard # 2 . The film is very Funny an Emotional also me being a Die-hard Star Wars Fan Since 1997 I enjoyed also What Star Wars Wouldn't want to see a Rough Cut of The Film we that crazy & awesome ,also Amazing Production Design By Cory Lorenzen(Napoleon Dynamite),Screenplay By Adam F.Goldberg(Free Wheelin), Costume Design By Johanna Argan(Columbus Day) and Direction By Kyle Newman(The Cyclist) A Fantastic Comedy for Die Hard Star Wars Fans 9/10
This is the second time I've watched this movie. The first time I watched it was years ago and I liked it because I'm a big star wars fan. But over the years I've become a cinephile. And so, the second time I watched it, I loved it, not because of my fanaticism, but because of the cinematography, acting, etc.The acting is solid, the plot is good-hearted, the scenes are funny, there's actual character development. The cultural references are witty and smart. I didn't even remember Jay Baruchel was in this movie. Oh, I almost forgot about Rush! As a Rush fan, pumping up Rush songs on the van was awesome. There were lots of cameo appearances which I enjoyed: Seth Rogen as the trekkie and the pimp was hilarious, his comedic range really shines in this movie. Danny Trejo, Ethan Suplee, Billy Dee Williams, William Shatner, Carrie Fisher, Kevin Smith & Jason Mewes, Will Forte & Craig Robinson, Danny McBride, the list goes on...This movie is a classic and will only turn better with time, just like a good wine. Every scene is comedic gold and really quotable. A coming-of-age movie about 4 young fanboys. One of the most underrated movie ever. Too bad it was a box office failure.8/10
Four childhood friends and Star Wars fans decide to go cross-country to steal a copy of 'Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace' before its release from George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch. Eric (Sam Huntington) is on the cusp of real responsibility with the family car dealership. Windows (Jay Baruchel) has an online fling with a girl who says she has plans to Skywalker Ranch. Linus (Chris Marquette) is really sick and Hutch (Dan Fogler) is the loud-mouth idiot. Zoe (Kristen Bell) is Windows' co-worker at the video store. Seth Rogen plays Admiral Seasholtz, leader of the Trekies, and pimp Roach. This is definitely best for sci-fi fans. There is a lot of references to Star Wars, Star Trek, and quite frankly various other franchises. The movie just won't work if you don't know any of the references. Of course, there are all sorts of cameos from those series. Not all of the road trip works well. The roadside biker bar isn't that funny. The fight with the Trekkies is much better. When Zoe rejoins the group at the midpoint, she has a lot of fun with the geeks. Probably she should have been the fifth road tripper right from the start. While the constant referencing is funny, sometimes it needs a break to work more on the relationships.
