Waste of time
A Masterpiece!
One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
Very boring movie, story is missing some spice. Nothing special, not even to pass the time
The biggest waste of 2 1/2 hrs of my life. I honestly got cancer and wished I died by the time it ended! Anticlimactic and worse than the first time I tried to have sex.
To all the people who say this was not a funny movie, that it was an hour too long or that it got confusing toward the end: my friends, you are the victims of lousy marketing. With a DVD box that boasts "LAUGH OUT LOUD" and "HILARIOUS" in a font so big you can see it from the international space station, you'd think that this is a spleen-splitting comedy. But, while it does have some great moments, "Funny People" is foremost a drama. If you've seen Adam Sandler's 2002 film "Punch Drunk Love", that might give you an idea of the mixture of drama & comedy, except I'd say the drama is even heavier here. And at 2 1/2 hours long, you'd better have a pretty decent attention span to stay with it.If I haven't scared you off, then awesome. You might like this movie as much as I did. Adam Sandler plays an entertaining but not particularly likable character named George. George is a comedian, but right in the first 10 minutes his life takes a dark turn when he learns that he has a type of leukemia. The rest of the film is about him trying to cope with his bleak future while trying to reconnect with his past. All of this is set against the ironic backdrop of the stand-up comedy circuit, and that juxtaposition is what I found brilliant about this movie. If you're watching closely, you realize that his stand-up routines are actually quite depressing, but the fact that it's told at a comedy club makes it funny to the audience. Thus the theme emerges: there's a fine line between comedy and tragedy.Things get really heavy in the 2nd half when George's ex girlfriend enters the picture. No, it's not exactly madcap hijinks (although the ex's new husband is absolutely hilarious); instead it becomes a very convoluted tangle of love, friendship, lust and loyalties... and everything seems to be at odds with everything else.I never saw any of Adam Sandler's crazy comedies back in the 90s (Happy Gilmore, etc), so to me he's just a good, quirky dramatic actor like I've seen in this film and the excellent "Punch Drunk Love". Of the two I prefer Punch simply because Sandler's character is more endearing. If you haven't seen it, go watch it immediately."Funny People" has a ton of cameo appearances by well known comedians & personalities like Sarah Silverman, Paul Reiser, Andy Dick, Ray Romano, Eminem, Aubrey Plaza, and easily 20 more I didn't recognize. It's a lot of fun to watch, just don't expect the movie to be as funny as the people that are cast in it. "Funny People" is a serious drama with a funny twist.
"Famous comedy artist who is about to fall for Leukemia hires an assistant for comedy writing and trying to spend some time with his Ex- girlfriend who is already married. He Succeed? What happened to his health??" Full and full adult movie. Reunion is not good and the second breakup even worse. I really have no idea about the assistant and why he was there. I cant believe that I wasted 2 and a half hours for this movie. Worst stand up comedies throughout the movie. Even the roommates cant make the movie alive. Stay away.
