Best movie of this year hands down!

Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

My friend made me see this movie .. describing it as a sort of B-movie, low budget but very fun movie. Well, i am not sure about the B movie label, but it was indeed very enjoyable. While it is a kind of monster movie, it felt as much a monster movie as Shawn of the dead was a zombie movie. The monsters were there .. but the focus was on the quirky characters and the very nice chemistry between each of them. They talked, they acted and reacted quite belieable .. while still being naturally funny.This movie is light hearted but not dumb. It breaks with the tropes in a clever and very enjoyable way ... i can fully recommend this movie (just do not expect to be scared or so ... its not that kind of movie)

In reply to this review, by the_doofy, on 25 May 2017 I can categorically state that absolutely no animals were harmed in the making of this 'foreign' movie. No whales. No cats. No fish. No alien monsters.The pod of pilot whales on the beach near the start of the film were all FAKE. As in - not real. In fact - the film makers are delighted and not a little amused that you thought that real whales had been haunted down and butchered. If you thought they were real, then that's a great compliment to the craft on display.The whale that forms the centrepiece of the first scene between Ruth Bradley's and Russell Tovey's characters' first meeting was sculpted out of polystyrene, coated in silicone, and painted.The rest of the whales that you see lined up on the sand are 100% CGI.Did the_doofy really think this film lacked the budget for any CGI? Did he think that the film makers, (when not busy hunting down and butchering pilot whales) captured some giant tentacle aliens and forced them to perform?

When I saw the plot I immediately knew I had to watch it, I admit I enjoyed it most of the time but it needed more comedy and a scarier looking monster but I had it's funny bits specially from Ruth Bradley she was the highlight from a straight cop to a believable drunk . I hate to compare it to Shaun of the dead , and having the screenwriter admittedly claim the influence from Tremors hence the title, but you can't deny it, I wasn't that bothered by the stereotyping of Irish drunken, I didn't find it offensive in any way, but I had a hard time believing the romantic interest both protagonist were having at the end. I say Grabbers is decent enough and the CGI looked good specially for a low budget production. Sadly I wished I would have made a better effort creating better characters, anyone watching this movie would wish Simon Pegg would make a better functioning alcoholic than Richard Coyle.

I watched this film last night and was very disappointed. It is pitched as a comedy/horror but there are almost no scary or funny parts in the whole film.The storyline is a well-trodden path for this type of low budget B- movie and will be familiar to anyone who has watched this type of film before: small community under attack from some nameless horror has to band together to defend themselves. Unfortunately this film brings nothing new to the table and pales in comparison to other films in this genre like Shaun of the Dead.If you think Irish people getting drunk is hilarious then you will love this movie but other than a few funny quips by the fisherman there are no big jokes or laugh-out-loud moments in the whole film. If the horror made up for the lack of comedy this would be okay but it doesn't, the monsters look okay but there are very few edge-of-the- seat moments or suspense to keep you interested.A horror/comedy can still be good if it's not scary but it is funny or it's not funny but it is scary but if it's neither then what's the point?
