I love this movie so much
Yawn. Poorly Filmed Snooze Fest.
One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
I love this movie, first of all. I think it is delightfully creepy. A house in a regular old place, I imagine, with regular old folks living in it. But inside its walls is Roach and his pals, the People Under the Stairs. And two bros come in and they meet Alice and say, "Hey, baby, what's up?" Then those two psychos come in and throw Alice in the hot, hot water. Was this movie a Twin Peaks spin off that no one wants to admit to? WHO JUST SAID FOR OBVIOUS REASONS?! WHO SAID IT!!!!!!Roach is cool. "I don't give a (you know what,) he might say to his buddies, the People Under the Stairs." And they'd be like, "Damn right, Roach, we're getting out of this place." And the brothers come in and free them. It's a spooky film to watch this pumpkin popperific Halloween!
brilliant movie actors very great and the makeup they were wearing really stood out and how they did that thing with roaches tougue to make it look really cut out was amazing. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen the minute I started watching it fool was a convincing character and had me believing he was really captured and alice the way her clothes and stuff really looks scared was amazing sad part was when the wee dog was killed even thought it was a evil dog was a cute dog. I loved the part where all the communty came togetter and tried to stop her and him but I have to say would of been nice if alice had found her real mum and dad and had a happy ending but I guess alice just wasn't meant to have that happily ever after I recommend this movie to everyone and say you have seen brilliant till you seen the people under the stairs ,
The greatest achievement that Wes Craven made with this film was to make a story over a thousand years old fresh and original. This is Wes Craven at his best, taking a classic fairy tale format and bringing it into the modern age. Before thinking this is just a horror film, the idea of a witch fattening up children with candy to eat their raw flesh, is pretty horrific, yet Hansel and Grete is told to millions of children every year. Wes Craven plays with the dark horror behind every fairy tale, and instead of using an old brush, spray paints a new horrific fairy tale, with every classic element you could wish for with a modern spin. For me this is Wes Craven's best film, bold, outrages, truly original and unlikely ever to be made again. A wonderfully modern fairytale!!
A planned house robbery turns very deadly for a young boy once he discovers 'The People under the Stairs'. We first meet Fool, a kid living in the ghetto worried about how the family will pay for his ill mother's operation. He, along with two older men, plan to rob a huge house a nice neighbourhood in order to accomplish that goal. Problem is that the owners of the estate are two wackjobs who act as wife and husband, despite being brother and sister. We see that these two are keeping a teenage girl captive in the upstairs bedroom, locked away from the rest of society. Once Fool goes in the house to steal some valuable coins, he meets up with Alice and discovers more ghastly secrets in the basement... under the stairs.I like 'The People under the Stairs' a lot, it's a fast paced horror film that has something going on at every turn. The story of this "couple" keeping this poor girl locked in the house could have been too disturbing for viewers to handle, but Wes Craven does well in not overdoing the abuse. We see her being hit by the "mother" and thrown in extremely hot water, but we never see too much of the abuse which is good. It could've been overdone which might have hurt the movie. Instead, 'The People under the Stairs' focuses on Fool and his quest to go through in the insides of the large house in order to get the coins and to save Alice. There is a back-story which explains the siblings and the people they have locked away under the stairs which is a pretty effective tale. It just adds to the craziness we viewers endure from the two man and the woman.Fool is such a lovable character which is great, Brandon Adams was a great child actor. All of the acting was good, especially from the crazed siblings (Everett McGill and Wendy Robie). They played sadistic and creepy almost too well! This is one to check out if you're a horror fan. 7/10
