Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
Sorry, this movie sucks
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.
Good movie, but Hollywood pulled a fast on on us. What other movie reminds us of a good movie that is like this that came out in the last 5 yrs. Hmmm Odd Thomas, yep!!!!! Well to bad the kids name is Jake. Would have been neat to have his name Thomas. Hahaha
First of all, i must admit that i was completely unaware of this film, until very recently. Second, i saw many reviewers having given a high score to this movie, comparing it to its contemporary "Sixth Sense". I must say that when the latter was released, it didn't fascinated me that much, since i found it to be a rather superficial version of the 10-year older cult masterpiece with the title "Jacob's Ladder". Having said that, i now have to add that "Stir of Souls" is not, by any means, close to "Sixth Sense". What you' ll get here is a childish one- piece ghost story, lacking even the slightest twist to get things interesting. Both the scenario and the characters lack the psychological depth that could make a typical monolithic ghost story a good movie that keeps you guessing on the edge of your seat. Second class in all its aspects. My humble rating: 3/10.
This movie is guaranteed to freak you out. The visual effects, although low tech, are extremely well done and provide a very eerie look into the world of the paranormal. One of the things that caught my attention was that this story was originally penned by Richard Matheson as a book. He has a boatload of credits to his name both as a book and short story author as well as the dozens of film and TV scripts he's written. The plot is just OK but nothing spectacular here, and very far from the novel spirit. Elements that are introduced throughout the film are tided together quite nicely in the end. The acting is decent, with Kevin Bacon giving the best performance in his major role part in this movie. He really makes you believe in his character, which is one of the elements that makes this movie work so well. The acting, particularly, struck me as being better, but Katheryn Erbe, as Kevin's wife, really jumped out. They paired well. The other actors do a good job as well. Illeana Douglas' character might have been a bit 'too' but that's a minor quibble. The movie sags after its strong start and features a slew of horror movie clichés seances, visions, and sudden loud noises. Over time, I saw how the stories of the other secondary characters did and didn't intersect when it was about to come to a head. The special features include a nice featuring, where the actors, director and writer of the film-inspiring novel give their takes on this project which never fails to send shivers up the spine.Overall rating: 7 out of 10.
I am normally not a real big fan of Kevin Bacon but I thought that in this movie he gave us his best performance so far. When I see his face I always imagine him in Footloose and I wonder when he's going to start dancing. But in Stir Of Echoes I for once didn't had that feeling. The little boy played by Zachary David Cope was also very good. Nice believable acting by this kid. The story itself was certainly interesting enough to keep you intrigued during the whole movie. I would rather call it a thriller then a horror movie. You won't get scared for one minute. Well at least I wasn't. But I certainly did enjoy this movie a lot and that's what it's all about.
