Fresh and Exciting
This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.
Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
When an army of Graboids - giant, carnivorous underground worms - threaten the Petromaya oil refinery in Mexico, its owners call on Earl Bassett (Fred Ward), who once helped kill four of the creatures in Perfection, Nevada.TV Guide wrote, "This movie is a rarity among direct-to-video sequels, one that's not only worthy of its theatrical predecessor but suggests that it too, belongs on the big screen... Despite the significantly lower budget, the monsters remain entirely convincing." This is spot on. Although the 1990s were full of countless horror sequels, most were garbage. This one, despite the low budget, offers a high-quality film with creative new (and good looking) monsters.Anyone who liked the first film definitely needs to see the second.
I do not understand why this film went strait to video, I mean I've seen worse in theaters and really do not get this! Tremors 2 is a good film successful in humor and action and It's probably the coolest looking film in the series, so why? My best guess is that it was not as much in demand as it would have been if it was released more around '93, and that it did not have as much of a mainstream feel to it. But anyway, this film is better than it's IMDb rating says, I'd say more around 7.5-8.0. And (spoilers ahead) the new graboid form (shriekers) were very cool. They had graboid-ish heads that are equipped with heat sensors, and bodies that look like the last two or so feet of a graboid, but with legs. The story is good, adding more horror elements too the mix, and over all it is a very good movie.
Even without Kevin Bacon, I thought the second movie was just as good as the first.Fred Ward, Michael Gross, and the other actors were able to carry on from the first movie, and bring additional elements to the ongoing saga of the horrible Graboids that lurk under the ground. If anything, I thought the second movie was actually better in parts, because the creatures have evolved into something altogether worse than in the first film, and our intrepid heroes have to deal with it.I also liked how Fred had to move on without his sidekick, (or was it the other way around)Kevin Bacon, and now he is the one with a sidekick in Grady Hoover, who idolizes Fred as the "stud" Graboid hunter. And of course what can you say about Michael Gross? Just kills it here too.
While not as sprightly paced, as assuredly directed or as skillful in terms of camera work as the original, for a made-for-video sequel, this really is not bad. I was expecting shoddiness and derivative elements but Tremors 2 was really entertaining and surpassed my expectations completely. For one thing, the scenery is really nice and sets the atmosphere well. Secondly, the film is sharply written, and has its fair share of funny lines while being smart as well. Thirdly, the graboids are very well designed and the attacks are quite shocking, thanks to the soundtrack and the sound effects. Fourthly, the performances are engaging, Fred Ward reprises his role as charismatic and cool Earl and does a very good job, while Christopher Gartin is suitably chirpy as his assistant and Michael Gross is hilarious once again as Burt. Fifthly, and finally, it actually manages to stay true to the jokey spirit of the original. Overall, as far as sequels go this smart and entertaining follow up is one of the better ones out there. 7/10 Bethany Cox
