Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
One of my all time favorites.
Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
Others will have described the massively complex plot here better than I ever could but I just came here to add that, even watching this is a foreign language with English subtitles, I 'got' enough of the in jokes (maybe it would even be called satire?) to laugh at the right parts of this film. The rest is done with such beautiful and surreal panache that you can't help but love it. A great and truly entertaining film that doesn't condescend or foreshadow anything. You won't know what's around the next bend but you'll probably agree it's all just as it should be. (And it's better than the first installment as well!)
The plot is so inflated with useless subplots and it's hard to understand what's going on. There's many things that could be cut out and the story wouldn't be any different. Not to mention the film itself is directed poorly, with flashing and confusing scenes. It's hard to know what's going on. And the idea of good versus evil had been done a million times. This isn't better than those others. And there's not a single likable character. The characters are actually quite despicable, for example, Anton, the main character, while inside a female body, entered Sveta's, a woman, shower without permission then when she orders him to leave he kisses her, all without her consent, and the movie portrays this sexual assault as romantic.
It's been a few weeks since I saw the eccentric and wacky 'Nochnoy Dozor' which was a complete thrillride. Having seen the sequel last night, 'Dnevnoy dozor' (a.k.a. 'Daywatch') is way more (positively) absurd, imaginative, extravagant and crazier than its prequel. It also makes up for many of the flaws that were in the first film (which was still a fun watch in spite of them) though I must add that it's better to watch 'Nochnoy Dozor' before watching this sequel as there are plenty of references that would otherwise be missed.'Nochnoy Dozor' and 'Dnevnoy dozor' have that comic book film feel to them and the makers load both films with plenty of energy, eccentricities, quirks and humour to keep the viewer engaged and allow them to feel involved in this bizarre world. The larger than life characters, the twists and turns, the mixture of fantasy and science fiction and revelations in the second film all fit together in an odd comical way.The visual effects, sound design, light effects, art direction and cinematography are first rate. The action sequences (and there are many) are a delight to watch. The performances are pretty decent. Viktor Verzhbitskiy, Zhanna Friske, Vladimir Menshov, Galina Tyunina, Valeriy Zolotukhin and Mariya Poroshina do a fine job. The suitably erratic score fits in smoothly. There're action, romance, carchases, bloodhunting, vampires, witches, time travelling, parallel worlds, a spiderchild, body swapping and many more weirdness that together make the fine ingredients for a delicious dish. What's not to like? 'Dnevnoy dozor' is a fantastic sequel, a roller-coaster ride from start to finish.
I couldn't tell you why I returned to this saga after being immensely disappointed by Night Watch, but I did. Again I was drawn in by the same misguided hype that surrounded the first instalment.Who are these simple, easily satisfied cinema-goers that drool over basic gimicks such as the alternative subtitles in Night Watch? What about the convoluted, silly plot, complete lack of interesting characters and vague half-formed ideas? Anyway, enough of the first movie. The second, somehow manages to plum new depths of pointlessness. Again the plot is needlessly complicated in order to direct focus from the fact that there isn't really one.The characters can never arrest the attention due to the dialogue being translated (badly) from Russian, leaving sub-70's cop show acting. I can only surmise that it was more realistic in it's native tongue. For a fantasy film there seem to be very little fantastical elements, but rather some vague hints that at any moment now something might happen. The editing is by far the most insurmountable issue here though, by turns deeply serious then, suddenly, comedic. Absurd. It's all such a waste that it's hard to tell what the directors were aiming to achieve here. Hopefully it wasn't what we ended up with.
