I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

I agree wholeheartedly with the reviewer who compared this to The Shield. Where I differ is that I would not give this just one star. If you're expecting a masterpiece then, yes, this will disappoint, but for an action movie with suspense and a bit of a mystery, there are far worse, far more implausible action-adventure films shown in the US and UK every week. The Ray Winstone character needed a little work -- he's less corrupt than Vic Mackey of The Shield, yet somehow less sympathetic. You could spend an hour listing all the clichés, plot problems and unrealistic moments, or you could just make some popcorn, sit back and enjoy. As for viewers and critics who complained about the incomprehensibility of its cockney accents, maybe they saw it in a theater without subtitles. Just use the subtitles or closed captioning and think of it as a foreign film.

This film is strong on action which is violent most of the time. The London depicted in it is very different from the London of the original TV series. This is a re-developed London and Docklands, the night photography was good and enjoyable. So were the interiors, clinically clean. The dialogue contained too much swearing for my taste. it was strong on the "macho" short on the witty. The car chases were great. Just as well there were no cyclists on those country roads with that psychopathic driving from villains and Sweeney. Perhaps I was looking for the TV series Sweeney-speak... "OK son you're nicked" and the rhyming slang, but then would you call a mobile phone a "dog and bone"? The final car chase was good with hand-break turns worthy of rally driving. I was expecting the tyres to blow before the guns went off. The filming was good. The Regan and Carter in the film lacked the camaraderie of the original characters and the dialogue was coloured with so many swear words, I didn't really notice much else. For me the film dialogue lacked the humour and wit of the original TV series, but the setting and filming made up for that.

The Sweeney is an attempt to somehow capture the essence of the London Flying Squad, but in doing so it seriously loses the plot.I was reminded of the old TV Series Minder which saw over acted formulaic cliché - not something you'd expect these days perhaps. The London East End accents presumably are to improve the "realism" but in reality are so heavy and mumbled they are hard to follow. I expect no-one in North America would have a chance in following the dialog! The romantic connection between the lead role (Regan) and DC Nancy Lewis is about as far-fetched as you can get - Regan is like a battle scarred old front row rugby player, about 30 years past his best. Lewis is half his age. It was gross!Action scenes are well put together and certainly entertain, if a little far fetched - the main shoot-out has Regan firing about 50 shots from his handgun. He does reload once, to his credit... but overall these work quite well. The musical score is actually not too bad and adds to the mood. But overall not a great effort and expect to be underwhelmed.

Sad and silly. A glorification of an impossible machismo that could never survive one day in the real world. I like people who believe Man can be so strong, they are so easy to deceive. Like lambs to the slaughter. The plot is childlike, good guys versus bad guys, the good guys literally fight crime, as in with their fists, like crime and all of its ethereal origins can somehow be battered into submission with mere physical strength. Comically hyper-masculine wish fulfillment, working-class British tough guys, does this stuff work in England? Like is it plausible? People don't dismiss this horsesh*t out right? I thought you were smarter than this England, maybe it's just the accent.
