Fresh and Exciting
Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
This movie feels like it was made purely to piss off people who want good shows
This movie doesn't take itself seriously, so how do you describe it in the usual terms of plot, acting, and direction. The plot is predictable and ridiculous but it's still great. The acting? Looks like they had a great time doing it and it was fun to watch so who cares. The movie turned out great so the directing was fine. It's a cute love story with the usual 1) they hate each other, 2) they fall in love, 3) something breaks them up, and 4) well you know how that goes.Goldie Hawn is adorable. I thought she overplayed the rich witch a little, but then that was how all the rich people were played. Kurt Russell is fine, but besides Hawn, the stars were the kids.I loved the last line of the movie.
Garry Marshall's "Overboard" is one of the funniest movies of the 1980's that I have seen since "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" in the very same year. The movie stars Goldie Hawn as Joanna Proffitt a mother who becomes spoiled and loses her memory and has to deal with a lot of motherly problems with all of her sons and her husband Dean (Kurt Russell) who acts like a child and doesn't want to be too strict with his sons. Not only is it funny it is also a very effective love story with very good performances from both Hawn and Russell. another thing the movie does is not focus on Hawn as a spoiled woman but the movie focuses on two important things throughout the course of the movie, the fist thing being that a family may sometimes feel like they hate each-other when they don't on the inside, and the second thing being that a marriage only works when you choose the right person to marry. This movie is also ranked (to me personally) as one of the best comedies of all time along with "Some Like it Hot" (1959), "Ball of Fire" (1941), "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" (1986), "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" (1987), and "Ed Wood" (1994). this is a movie that I happen to think that a lot of kids of all ages will happen to enjoy, and this was a fun movie to watch and is worth watching over and over again.
a nice comedy. an example of "80 not great but seductive cinema. or, only,Goldie Hawne and Kurt Russell. in fact, a seductive version of The Prince and the Pauper with right cast, right story, amusing moments and energetic development and with useful moral lesson. it is so easy to criticize it than must see only. as a simple story, about simple people and the clash between different worlds. and this is all. just fun. nothing complicated or profound. only a young woman and her universes. and the bitter lesson about life. after its end remains only a not bad reflection about destiny, rich people and happy people. and the sensation to be viewer of a fairy tale. but this is the basic purpose of each film. so, a film. nice, smart and seductive.
As I write this review, I have just watched this delightful comedy for what is about the 15th time, and it still is one of my all-time favorites. Yes it is formulaic, predictable, and often overdone. Yes it's true that if this were to happen in real life it would be criminal, and punishable to the extreme. Yet it manages to be both funny and heart-warming, with some eternal truths thrown in about values and what is important in life. Also it has some original ideas, such as building a miniature golf course and not going overboard (No pun intended) on school achievement and test scores. Despite the fact that this was not made to be an Oscar contender, it nevertheless is as close to a perfect comedy as I own in my huge DVD collection, and is a favorite of mine and most of my friends. If you can't enjoy this, I honestly feel sorry for you; you need to lighten up.
