The Lazarus Project
After Ben Garvey foolishly turned back to crime, he thought his life was over when he was sentenced to death by lethal injection. But his death sentence isn't quite what it seems, as Ben regains consciousness near an eerie psychiatric ward, where he's told he's been hired as the groundskeeper. With the state of his soul in question, and the love for his wife and daughter all the more real and powerful, Ben must figure out if he's truly cheated death, or if he's become part of something far more sinister.

Awesome Movie
As Good As It Gets
It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.
It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
The Lazarus Project is an Excellent Thriller with excellent acting by Paul Walker. This film is a very underrated film, classed by some viewers as slow, well that's completely rubbish and unfair. It's not slow at all, the films storyline about a man taken away from his wife and daughter and thrown into a haunting care home with people trying to get prison Ben Harvey to forget about his wife and kids and by Ben trying to find out is the place where he should really be, all the haunting flashbacks he gets of his wife and daughter by being on his own and people trying to deceive him etc is what the films about. The film is a very tense film and is just an amazing film. The film also has excellent acting by a great cast and Paul Walkers acting as Ben Garvey is absolutely brilliant.
Should be the title of this film, because nearly all of the plot revolves around concepts the likelihood of which ever happening is extremely remote. Having said that, viewed as a piece of fairly conventional movie-making I think the film does succeed. It has suspense, tension, good cinematography and a decent cast. Paul Walker as the main protagonist, is to be congratulated on maintaining the same grim, clenched-jaw expression throughout most of the story. Let's face it, the point of any movie is to entertain, which this one does and it also keeps you guessing, so to expect every film to be believable is not a reasonable expectation. Even so, in this case we are asked to accept rather too many plot holes than is humanly possible I am afraid. Anyway, it was a pleasant enough affair, not too taxing on the brain and the pace, although slow, served to remind us that we do not always crave a frenetic, adrenalin-fuelled smorgasbord of car-chases, sex and mind-blowing special effects. Not always.
It's the filming style that I had a hard time with when watching this film. Everything is dark, subdued, and depressing if you think about it. There's little in the way of incident in the story, not much in the way of emotion either, just a dark path for our hero to journey down until he reaches enlightenment at the ending. I'm sure the film-makers had the best intentions but this turns out to be plodding and rather dull I'm afraid. The underrated Paul Walker stars as a low rent career criminal who's blessed with a loving wife and daughter. Unfortunately he's sent to death row where he's given a lethal injection for his part in a triple murder. Later, he wakes up and discovers he's a gardener at a remote institution. Is it a dream? Is this the afterlife? Or is something more sinister going on? Does anyone care? The storyline has potential, I admit that, but everything's so slow and uninteresting that I just didn't (care, that is). Walker puts in a solid performance but his character is underwritten for the most part and solid character actors like Bob Gunton, Lambert Wilson, and Tony Curran are wasted in their roles. I'm afraid THE LAZARUS PROJECT was a bore for me.
The premise was ridiculous- however some have asked why would they spend the money to help a few criminals- one reviewer who didn't get it called others morons for thinking the movie was slow. They are just testing on a small group of death row types to hopefully expand to all crazy people. Anyhow, typical pretentious garbage. The plot makes no sense, is totally unbelievable and has too many holes. However, I saw it on a rainy day and it is good enough for that kind of viewing situation. At some point I hung on long enough to see how it ended. Watch it just don't expect too much.
