Just perfect...
At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
I was a little skeptical about this movie going in, but since I am becoming a growing fan of Australian films these days, and because I just can't ever resist Jessica De Gouw, I thought I'd give it a shot. And I was handsomely rewarded! The story starts with an oncoming asteroid/comet/fireball that is due to hit and obliterate Earth, and the accompanying countdown to the end of life as we know it. All of humanity is aware it is coming, and there is nothing that can be done about it. James (Nathan Phillips) is leaving Zoe (Jessica De Gouw) in bed (idiot!) to travel accross town to attend the party to end all parties. This begins a tale which is sometimes touching, sometimes crazy, and sometimes terrifying. The imagery is beautiful throughout, and the film offers a unique vision of how humanity would spend it's last 12 hours on Earth, culminating nicely with a very tender and loving moment between Phillips and DeGouw. This is a good film...it keeps you focused the entire time, and sews itself up nicely in the end, which to me, is the sign of good storytelling.Special shoutout to Angourie Rice, who does a great job of playing a little girl who is simply trying to find her father, and in the end helps James come to his senses and return to Zoe.Another great job by the Australian film industry!
In "These Final Hours" Nathan Phillips plays James. A man who doesn't want to face the impending doom of the apocalypses. As the final hours approach, he has the chance to redeem his life and make things right once and for all. The film is well directed by Zak Hilditch and the cast does a stand up job all around. These types of films don't get a lot of funding in Australia, so it's good to see a genre piece like this come out of the local scene. It does have it's flaws in it's pacing at times, but the acting really draws you in and there is an overwhelming sense of dread and approaching doom. The cinematography by Bonnie Elliott is beautiful to behold. It's as if the sun is extremely close to the earth like an eternal summer evening. The themes tackled are quite simple and beautiful, which is the real shinning moment for the film. It's really asking not, "where you will be when the world ends" but "where would you rather be?" eight out of ten stars.
It was a good take on the whole end of the world concept. A bit slow and choppy at times, but seemed at least somewhat real. I enjoyed the movie as a whole, for the most part but let's get to the point that this movie really drove home.....titties.Seriously, tons of them. Nice ones too. I saw ONE ugly set of titties the whole time (and trust me, they show a LOT of titties). A+ on keeping men interested. Sorry women, the best you get is a 3 second ass shot of the main character and then right back to ALLLLLLL the titties. Did a single adult female have a shirt on at all? I don't think so, at least not many, and not for very long. Overall, recommend it for either the actual content or just the titties. You'll appreciate at least one of the two.
This movie is perfect.Great acting ,the little girl was amazing, i like deep movies and this one fits.Australian movies are getting better again, I even love Crawlspace despite the harsh critics it got. This is a good movie about the end of world, sometimes reminds me of The road and also Melancholia from lars, the music was touching. I give this movie a solid 10, because i love doomsday films hopeless and sad like this one. So if you like those kind of flicks go for it, is a hell of a ride, I have some other friends they would act as crazy as those in the movie in the edge of fear and death, my mother wouldn't understand haha....its coming...
