I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
Don't listen to the negative reviews
I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Saw this recently on a dvd which i own. The plot is about a couple who decide to make a fresh start by moving away from the city but the countryside doesnt seem to help as the wife is tormented by terrible visions. Kevin Greutert being an editor himself, he did a mighty fine job with the editing n direction department. The film moves at a decent pace n has some solid moments of tension. The suspense is maintained throughout n the ending is satisfying. The countryside setting is beautiful. There is not much gore or killings nor it is scary but the film will definitely hold your attention. Avoid reading too much about this film as it can spoil the mystery element. I dont know y some fellas tried to compare this with another film, especially in the trivia section. Plz dont read the trivia section. Also, a Bollywood film Phobia has copied the idea from this film.
Like probably every other person who watched this movie, I did so due to the strong cast it boasted. If this movie consisted of a list of unknowns, I very much doubt many people would even give it a chance at all.I've always been a big fan of Isla Fishers, but sadly this movie shows she has definite limitations. Horror/thriller movies are just not for her. She comes across completely false in her role, which should have had multiple layers and had the possibility of showcasing her acting talent. Instead it illustrated her discomfort within the world of serious acting. In chick-flicks and nice romantic comedies, Isla is perfect, but when a role calls for something a bit more than 1 dimensional, she struggles and becomes insanely irritating. Jim Parsons seems unable to rid himself of the shackles that is Sheldon Cooper. Will he ever be rid of that role? This movie contains pretty much every stereotype that a film fan could expect. Even if you have never watched this movie before, you will know exactly where it's going. I have to say I rate this one as quite poor. It didn't scare me, make me jump, surprise me or immerse me. I was actually looking forward to the ending, which is never a good sign.I would advise to avoid.
A man and his wife move into a new house. She's a pregnant fashion designer who sees strange things. He's a vintner who doesn't believe her. Now follows an example how the dialogues in this movie go down: "I'm not crazy" - "I know"; " You don't believe me" - "Yes, I do". "Did you saw this?" - "No"; "I'm not crazy" - "I know". Groundbreaking. If it would contain a little bit of humor then one could've thought that this is a spoof on generic horror movies. But it doesn't and it isn't. The producers are dead serious about their horror-business. The movie is so bland that it even manages to mess up the - usually fail-safe - art of the jump scare, the last and mostly only resource of horror in movies like this. Then there are the actors mostly known for their roles in sitcoms, with little screen time that are completely out of place and randomly appear during the movie to ensure that the viewer knows he's in a movie and that under no circumstances things like an atmosphere can come up (eg. Jim Parson as Doctor, what the f*ck). Not to mention that the actual main characters are unlikable as f*ck. It says a lot when the only person you care about in a movie is an unborn baby. The only good thing about this piece of art is the "plot twist" which is ironically completely ripped-off from another movie. Easily the worst horror movie I've seen in the past years.
Occasionally you come across a thriller that has a run-of-the-mill sounding story line, accompanied by some surprisingly big actors in the lead roles. To me this is usually a sign that the movie is going to have a bit of an X-factor about it, often in the form of a twist. The three actors that caught my eye in this one were Isla Fisher, Jim Parsons and Eva Longoria. Nothing huge there, but for an almost unheard of horror/thriller they're still surprising to see. The first 90% of the film their presence wasn't making a lot of sense, then the final 10% began and I realised what had enticed them along. It's nothing mind-blowing or game changing, but it's more than enough to save the film from being a complete disaster.I did have to wonder though whether this is what Longoria's career has come to. She was a big star not that long ago, yet it appears since 'Deperate Housewives' came to an end her stocks have dropped and she's reduced to having nothing roles in little-known films. I kept expecting her character to get more screen time or at least have some important reason for being in the story, but sadly it never came. The reveal and the twist are what make this film, there is no doubt about that. My advice would be don't give up on this film too early, it gets better.
