Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.

There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

I honestly loved this movie. I thought it was so realistic and really showed that sometimes, love can be really complicated. As for the ending?--SPOILERS AHEAD--A lot of people don't like the ending, but I thought it was perfect. It allowed you to interpret what you thought would happen. In my opinion, Jacob and Anna were just holding on to memories. They were trying to make a future based on their past. I think that they wanted it so bad, and when they got it, they didn't know what to do. Yeah, there was a time when they were in love. And they'll always be each others first loves, but I don't think they'll be each others last. I interpreted the last shower scene as this: they were looking back on all the memories, but they realized it was just that. Memories. They'll always somehow be in each others hearts and minds and souls, but they won't be in each others lives. --END SPOILERS--The only reason I gave this a 9 was because I found it a little bit confusing with all the jumping around. Then again, I wasn't fully paying attention ;P. But overall, this was an amazing movie. And if you liked it, I recommend 6 years.

If you love romance movies, avoid this at all costs. From the opening scenes it is baffling that these two characters fell in love. Very few words are said, very few smiles (weak ones at that) are shared, and the two "lovers" barely touch each other. There is no reason presented to ever actually think that the two of them even like each other and it makes the rest of the movie drag on so badly its like being road hauled. The characters get together and break up for nearly unknown reasons because there isn't a scene in the movie longer than 8 seconds. The actors can barely think of things to say to each other, whether its close friends, lovers, coworkers, or parents. When they do speak for more than a single sentence, expect a smash cut or a montage. Dear god the montages! Is there a moment that requires emotion expressed through acting? Well instead you can watch the actors stand in various positions in a room and make mildly different faces with each still. The cinematography in this film is absolutely beautiful if you like being bludgeoned in the face by it. You would have an extremely hard time missing the message of "separation" that was forced into every scene involving the "lovers" and before they'd even been separated I was tired of it. By my honest estimation, you could watch the first 5-10 minutes of this film and then a clip of GOB from arrested development giving his classic line "I've made a huge mistake" and you will have gotten just as much out of this movie as if you'd spend the whole 89 minutes on it.

I don't know if I've got it right, but like crazy for me is the story of a love relationship that fades over time, as the space between them grows. Anna is a British student at LA when she meets Jacob. But due to a problem with her visa she is not allowed to enter America again. The two of them decide to keep in touch but for how long? The on and off of the relationship, the other lovers, the arguments, even the passionate love story, is a puzzle of how relationships work. Of course the ending, for me, spoils the whole movie. It is too "out of the blue" like when you expect something to happen and the movie just end with the credits starting to appear on the screen and you still look at them confused. What happened in the end? I don't know. Maybe everyone supposed to have their own version of the ending. And so I give like crazy a 4 out of 10.

I have read a number of reviews on this film and I can definitely identify with the ones that mention both leads (Felicity Jones and Anton Yelchin) are brilliant separately, but something goes missing when they are together.I really enjoyed the subject matter of the film. This is a young couple in love who are trying to deal with the sorts of problems that everyday couples have. Their issues are not glamourised and that is echoed by the minimalism in the script. I enjoyed the celebration of the mundane, which really allowed me to connect with the story. The issue I have with the film, though, is that I didn't really buy these two as a couple. The chemistry really wasn't there for me. As I said before, Jones and Yelchin put in solid performances with a nice cameo from Jennifer Lawrence, but I didn't feel the connection between the two. I didn't believe that these two were desperate to be with each other and that they were going through the torment of that not being able to happen. The film had enough emotion to pull on the heartstrings. I just think with these two characters, I felt a certain amount of detachment which translated into not feeling as emotionally connected to the characters as the film probably intended.
