Sadly Over-hyped
In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Not sure why people hate this movie, but the set up and the subsequent installment of "Hellraiser" is a unique spin on the series. Not necessarily for the die hard Pinhead fans, but it plays like a Skin-a-max movie sure to win over the adolescent (in me anyway).director Rick Bota uses the locations to great effect. A rotten apartment in Romania, is gruesome, scary and is beautiful in it's sickness. Kari Wurher does a fantastic job at the sleuthing part. AND, there are subtle hints of a woman who has male trust issues. Key points NEVER voiced, but..things like combat boots, or having a oversexed banter with a co-worker. These are nice nuances of character that seem to have been missed because it is a Hellraiser tag and subtlety isn't what that franchise is known for. But I really liked this movie for having the guts to try something different. For those desperately wanting Pinhead as the central figure, this isn't your movie. For those who are into psychological punk'd out drama, this is a decent watch
The previous 2 movies in this franchise didn't really seem like a "Hellraiser" movie all that much. As a matter of fact this seems like the third installment of a trilogy of people that are going through psychotic breakdown. This movie is watchable for being a stand alone flick, but wouldn't have gotten as much attention if it weren't for the "Hellraiser" title. The story is about a semi-goth looking journalist starts to investigate her sister's death and her sister's ties to a underground zombie cult of some sort. And the more she digs, the more horrendous stuff she unravels and finds more than what she bargained for. Now this WAS first written to be a stand alone movie, but decided to rewrite it connect it to add Pinhead and the cenobites. By having the cult leader who is the descendant of the guy that first created the puzzle box trying to wage war and control the cenobites and the hellworld. The protagonist caught in the middle of it all while dealing with her inner demons (this is the only somewhat interesting bit of this movie). The main thing going for this movie is the imagery which creepy, nasty, bizarre and almost underworld like (which breaks away from the silly and goofy aspects of the previous 2 installments). And the imagery is the only thing that kept my attention throughout this whole thing because when it comes to the story, it's easily forgettable. The series after the 4th installment is heading to the criminal investigation movie with a protagonist that constantly hallucinates over and over and over again. It actually got really old after a while to the point of it getting more annoying than suspenseful. Although forgettable I give this movie credit for the vibe and the decent build up, although the development is poor if that makes any sense.4.6/10
Journalist Amy Klein (Kari Wuhrer) likes to live life on the edge, taking assignments that offer her danger and excitement; when she is given the opportunity to track down a bizarre cult in Romania, who are allegedly able to bring the dead back to life, she happily hops on the first plane from London to Bucharest (where, as it so happens, horror films can also be made on the cheap). Not long after her arrival, Amy tracks down the apartment of Marla (Georgina Rylance), one of the cult's members, where she finds the girl's dead body clutching a strange puzzle box. A video tape made by Marla warns Amy not to open the box, but the intrepid reporter doesn't listen and winds up having to face her demons (both metaphorically and literally)...Directed by Rick Bota, who also made Hellseeker (the previous film in the franchise), Deader is, for the most part, a confusing load of twaddle largely thanks to a script that was never originally intended to be part of the Hellraiser franchise, but which was adapted to accommodate the Lament Configuration, Pinhead and his Cenobite pals.To his credit, Bota does what he can with the resultant mess, actually managing to deliver a couple of surprisingly well-staged scenes—Amy trying to reach past Marla's corpse to get to a package, and Amy waking to discover that she has a knife buried in her back—but despite these memorable moments, some reasonable gore and a smattering of gratuitous nudity (including brief toplessness from Wuhrer), the film as a whole still continues the gradual downward slide for the series.4.5 out of 10, rounded up to 5 for IMDb.
Hellraiser: Deader (Video 2005)This not were near as good as first movie movies or 5 or 6, I do think it just tiny bit better then 4th movie in the series.Only saw this few hours ago, I swear, I don't remember much that really happened in the movie There were some bloody moment , I would say bit more bloody then last two movie in the series.I just could not get into this movie at all, as the plot was bit to bland , I thought, I did not care anyone in this movie at all.Even the main lead, I found really annoying and I find ending really cheap and I did not like as much as the other sequel.it's was not as boring as fourth movie in the series, Which I give this movie 4 out of 10
