Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
How sad is this?
It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.
Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
This film can be enjoyable, if you don't expect too much (um, including a logical plot and threads neatly tied up). If you like stunning scenery of remote and craggy landscapes, then endure the silliness and watch the film. The opening credits have an interesting montage, too, of the typewriter and novels. But after that, it's pretty much downhill. Oh, the plot is fun, and Demi looks fabulous, the kid is cute, there's a menacing toy, the opening scenes aren't bad, and the romance is kinda silly but hey it's there. Toss in some some lightweight thriller/horror moments to keep you awake (the mirror scenes, windows, mysterious unexplained messages, the usual). But plot-wise, gheesh, what a far-fetched mess.
i watched 'the dark ' starring Maria Bello then saw this. it's ALMOST the same movie.they should be sold together . they could be remade as two movies or one movie with everyone from both movies. as usual i would've preferred more skin and sex . Demi has gone from looking good to looking for her age but there's life ( and body) in the old girl yet. Maria has small boobies but a nice bum and legs that promise you viewer heaven while taking you to hell ( Bon Jovi reference). oh boy oh boy, oh my oh my , it would be amazing to see beautiful Kate Issit's jaw breaking ,pants dropping massive(*)(*) .
This film wasn't predictable. I liked the atmosphere it built up. It was convincing as a ghost story although at the very end I felt there was a plot development that let it down a bit. But I was gripped for long periods. And scared. And I don't usually get scared by scary films. One point about the accents. This is supposed to be set in a Gaelic-speaking Highland community but when the locals talk in English they don't have Highland accents. They don't even have Lowland accents - they talk in a kind of Stage Scottish which doesn't exist anywhere except in films about Scotland. Still, I suppose this Stage Scottish keeps being used to signal to the rest of the world that the film is set in Scotland.
I had honestly hoped this would be somehow inspirational , but it's not. Best parts the videography which appears to be electronic HD. Love the sea scenes. Hate the stupid and mawkish love affair. She should have gotten into a high level interaction with the village psychic. Instead always in bed with a bed able man. Wow.. is this not pathetically predictable. The script could also have dealt with her sanity and the small edge she (the central female character) found herself on. It could have been more a grief issue with her young son. But, not a cheap twist of writing to appeal to the less than intelligent. Now, toward the end this whole pathetic mess becomes a farce, because the screen writer was not intelligent enough to give an original and challenging screen play. Just another predictable well heeled authoress with time on her hands. I really wish I had spent the 138 plus minutes in some other way.It amazed me how hollow and unimaginative HolloW wood writers can be and still get paid. The music was excellent, sentimental, predictable and well over shot intellectually the whole mess of a movie.
