It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

Watching it is like watching the spectacle of a class clown at their best: you laugh at their jokes, instigate their defiance, and "ooooh" when they get in trouble.

Online bullying and trolling is a fact of life modern life. This very website as its fair share of trolls. The impact of cyberbullying is worse with the young.Casey (Maisie Williams) loves to be online chatting with her friends. She gets badmouthed on social media by her ex boyfriend that she is on anti depressants. She gets a friend to hack into his account and spread the word that he is impotent. However Casey realises later that the online friend is an impostor and she is having a typed exchange with him and he hacked into her digital life and threatening to impose some revealing photos of her.The reason why Casey is being targeted is because she is a cyberbully and went out of her way to mock an awkward girl called Jen who used to post videos of her singing badly. The bullying escalated where Jen self harmed and eventually died.We never find out who the impostor was. Casey realises she needs to take back control of her life. The one hour drama has a low budget creepy horror feel about it. A young teenager, no worse or better than other similar teenagers falls victim to an anonymous bully who classifies himself as an avenger. Maybe the moralising was a bit heavy handed and it was rather predictable, I think we all guessed the fate of Jen.

A Teenager gets hacked and extorted by a stranger via her own computer. Now she has to cope with his moods and prevent her own calumny. This short film started accidentally after another YouTube-Video I watched about the issue of cyperbullying. Right since the first second I simply could not stop watching this movie. The tension, the setting, the music, and especially Maisie Williams impressing acting skills got my eyes glued to the screen from beginning to end. It was so enthralling!!! I have never experienced something like that before. Just watch it and not only get an original view on cyberbullying but also one hour of pure suspense.

Cyberbully is a well created, well edited and well-acted short TV film starring Maisie Williams. Best known for her role as Arya Stark in Game of Thrones, Maisie Williams performs in a type of role which I was yet to see her; unsurprisingly she did a very good job.It is the story of internet bullies/trolls, it shows first-hand the devastating consequences that they can have on teenagers. The story starts innocently normal with Casey (Maisie Williams) talking online with two of her friends. When her friend goes offline, Casey is then approached by her other friend in a private chat, it soon turns out that he isn't who he says he is and has been hacked. A string of blackmailing, bullying and terror follows as Casey is held to ransom by an unknown hacker. The entire film is shot within her bedroom, at a computer with a webcam, for this to be pulled off it needed to be fresh, smart and intriguing – thankfully it was all three. The choppy editing is very well done and creates suspense and uneasiness throughout. The hacker speaks to Casey through a computerised voice watching her every move on webcam. The shots of the computer screen are created well and this was necessary for a movie based solely in one confined location. As I read so many mixed reviews on this I decided to do a spoiler review so I could discuss my opinions and also give my opinion on other people's criticisms that I have read. 1) 'As if a couple of nude leaks could make a girl accept the idea of overdosing'. We are made aware from one of the very first scenes that Casey is on antidepressants, a comment is made by the hacker on a twitter account about her and we also see her taking one of the pills. This informs us from the start that this girl is unstable. She has her own issues and could potentially be vulnerable to stressful situations. Put this with the fact that she has just been made to believe that she was solely responsible for the suicide of another teenage girl. Suddenly it doesn't seem so unreasonable now, does it?2) 'Ending was rubbish as we didn't see who the hacker was'. For me, the identity of the hacker was irrelevant as the message was much deeper than a simple 'who done it' scenario. I did find myself guessing who the hacker was throughout this movie but as the final scenes panned out and the credits rolled I quickly realised that I had been missing the point. I initially thought it was her friend she was talking with in the past, I considered that it could then be her ex-boyfriend, and then it could have been the parent of the teenage girl who died. In the end we find out clearly that it was a troll who commented on one of the posts about the girl who died, we don't know any more than that and we don't need to. The main point of cyber bully isn't about who the hacker is, it's about the dramatic consequences of online bullying on one hand and also how to see clearly through the upset on the other. We see Casey call out for her father at the end of the movie, just after receiving reassurance from her best friend that she is there for her no matter what has happened. This is the moment that it hits Casey how lucky she is, she realises what she has in this world, she has people who care about her and she won't let a cyberbully ruin her life as was done previously with the girl who committed suicide.Casey was the girl who created and posted the original video of the girl singing, this was what started the bullying. The hacker was the person who left the first comment on the video (we know this from his typing of 'har har'). The hacker tries to push Casey to suicide through blackmail and enforcing guilt, could this be the reason why the other girl in the video committed suicide? The hacker tells Casey that it was all her fault and that she it totally to blame for posting the initial video. Casey is in the wrong but was the hacker more so to blame? Did he perform the same extensive bullying which he has done to Casey, on the other girl before she died?Overall, Cyberbully was a well created, impressively acted and chillingly realistic view of online bullying. Some aspects may seem a little far-fetched and clichéd but the ultimate message is clear and powerful.8/10

An hour long TV special, and featuring my favourite actress from Game Of Throne (Maisie Williams) this is a gripping drama about a very contentious issue... Online bullying. When does is a bit of playful banter on the Internet turn into harmful abuse, which can lead to depression, cutting... Even suicide? The line is a very blurry one... And the effect of it can depend very much on the individual targeted. Some are just naturally susceptible to the trolls... Maybe they've had difficult upbringings, or are extra sensitive to criticism. The wise ones would just roll their eyes, ignore the meaningless jibes and tell someone... But of course, not everyone is that strong, or wise. Whatever the reason, if you persistently target someone online with insults and name calling, there is something very wrong with you.Casey, the girl played by Maisie, is a bit of a troll herself... Mocking girls online for their dubious singing talents, accusing some of her friends of being gay behind their back, etc. Now, she is well and truly the victim... Trapped all by herself in her bedroom, while a hacker, who has somehow gained access to her harddrive, webcam AND phone, threatens to post explicit images of her he's stolen on Twitter... Unless she sit down, and do EXACTLY what he says. She's already on medication for depression due to her mother leaving... And this will factor heavily in the nerve wracking finale.Filmed entirely in the constraints of just this one room, Cyberbully successfully keeps you glued to the screen with it's slowly escalating horror... Aside from the parts where it becomes unbearable to watch, such as when our hacker decides to leak personal videos of Casey's to all her mates which basically insult and ridicule them. You may think this is a healthy dose of karma for her... Until you realise, this self proclaimed 'helper of victims of cyber bullying' is just as bad himself, for doing exactly the same thing he alleges he defends against (Only to a FAR more extreme level). This fact becomes more and more clear as the ordeal goes on.Maisie Williams is brilliant as the girl caught up in all this, expressing a wide range of emotions and winning my sympathy. She may be a bit of a b*tch by laughing and posting comments about those who might be less fortunate or more deluded than she is... But, so what? Everyone who's EVER watched a reality telly show, or seen some drunken weirdo stumbling down the street has had those thoughts at some stage or another... Why should SHE be the one singled to receive this loser's punishment?! I think the perpetrator of the crime is just using these incidents to manipulate her. Robin Hood, he ain't.Thought provoking, nerve jangling, Bite-your-nails-to-the-bone type 'fun'. 7/10
