A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."
Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
The film starts out as a great psychological thriller. Cara Harding (Julianne Moore) is a psychologist like her father (Jeffrey DeMunn). She does not believe in multiple personalities. Her dad finds a case in David/Adam (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) that challenges her. She investigates the lives they claim to be, only to discover the impossible. What was unfortunate was that this film moves from a clever thriller to a less than stellar horror film. I enjoyed the mystery aspect of the film. Cara's attempts to prove Dave/Adam as a hoax, blowing up in her face, time and time again was great. Too bad they couldn't wrap it up. Still it is well worth a view.Parental Guide: No F-bombs, sex, or nudity.
I quite enjoyed this, it's one of those films I saw the trailer, was wowed by it, and wanted to be utterly blown away by. Excellent in a number of ways, principally the performances of Julianne Moore and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, the latter in particular fantastic. A very dark story, with some cracking concepts. Lost its way a bit when the Witch Doctor was introduced, those scenes were so over the top they spoiled it a bit.I wonder if M Night Shyamalan took anything from this when it came to developing Split. Some genuinely creepy, dark moments, not least the moments with Cara's father, and then daughter suffering at the hands of David. To begin with it's a little slow, the directing could have been a bit punchier, but as it opens up and moves along it becomes rather engrossing.Dark, watchable, but could have been so much better, 7/10
This movie is a classic case of trying too hard. It tries too hard to be scary, it tries too hard to be unique, and it tries too hard to be good. Julianne Moore stars in this film, as a psychologist who specializes in debunking multiple personality disorders, claiming that nobody has them. Her father calls her in on a case of someone with this disorder, but the more she learns about his "personalities," the more she realizes that he embodies those who have been murdered. She then goes on a mysterious journey to find out why. This movie starts as what should be a good psychological thriller but about halfway through switches to a religious horror film, but doesn't deliver the scares. The story itself seems to have some interesting ideas, just not well executed. The actors in this film are fairly decent as well. In the end, this film suffers poorly from bad scripting, and plot holes more than swiss cheese. In all honesty, I've seen worse, but it wasn't good enough to be in my favorites. I am beginning to think people are paid to write bad reviews on IMDb. This is the second movie I've watched in a week where the reviews on IMDb aren't as high as the movie calls for. The purpose of my review isn't to rehash 6 Souls but to let people know that as far as entertainment value, it is much better than the 6.1 stars given. 6 Souls has suspense, above average acting and a plot that kept me guessing. Some reviewers have discounted the ending- but I guarantee that they never saw it coming. Therefore, the movie is also unpredictable. If you are looking for a movie that will give you a few jumps, has an interesting and fresh plot, and is genuinely creepy, you could do much, much worse than 6 Souls.
