Too much of everything
Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
This is my first review that has ever been negative. The story is good, the acting is great but the satisfaction at the end will leave you feeling cheated. A mystery is only fascinating and worthwhile when it is solved. The writers have chosen to waste the viewer's time by not resolving the mystery. Was she bad, or was it him? It never tells you. The writers remind me of the ones who did the TV series Lost. They too played with viewers, creating sub-plot after sub-plot but failing in the end to resolve the mysteries and bring satisfaction. Not your usual spoilers because I didn't really tell you much. Just avoid it or else you may be writing your own negative review about the time you wasted on this movie.
Finally got to watch on TV a couple weeks ago. My mom and I were excited, but we were disappointed in the end. We were hoping for a real thriller. While I love Rachel and Sam, they are great actors, but this wasn't 1 of my favorites from them. It was a bit boring.
This dour period-piece relies on such a non-narrative that I honestly struggled to see the point of the entire endeavour. 'My Cousin Rachel (2017)' essentially boils down to a romance which isn't romantic, a drama which isn't dramatic and a thriller which isn't thrilling. It culminates in a dreary sequence of successive scenes where our protagonist acts like an ignorant ass and the audience becomes more and more comatose. Once it finally reaches its conclusion, the flick revels in certain barely-there revelations and tries to convince us that it has actually been layered all along, which still couldn't cover up the almost depressing levels of boredom I felt throughout the piece. All the 'twist' essentially boils down to, though, is whether or not the feature just wasted nearly two-hours of your time and, whatever conclusions you may draw about the weak double-bluffing plot, this will invariably and inevitably be the case. 3/10
I must not have watched the same movie than the reviewers from the first two pages on here. I saw some pretty boring movies in my life but this one is just extremely boring. Don't watch this one if you are a little bit tired because you won't make it until the end. You will guarantee fall asleep. It's not because of the actors or the way of shooting the movie that this movie is so bad. It's just the story, it's boring, and not the greatest actor in the world can make this movie better. I just don't get why they would spend so much money to make a boring movie like this one. I just don't get it. The end was a bit better than 90 percent of the movie but it was just not worth the wait. I so wished I didn't lose my time watching My Cousin Rachel.
