Just what I expected
A waste of 90 minutes of my life
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
Yes, as others have said, it's the old female revenge meme, but with a different take. I didn't really like the ending, I could thing of a few different ways to end the movie that would have been more satisfying. So, this woman lives in this house, and apparently she has inherited a lot of money. And her brother dies. Now she's alone. And she has agoraphobia, she's afraid to leave the house. Then, people come in to steal her money. What the intruders don't know is that... she has some, shall we say... problems... ! I search long and hard to find a good movie, usually to be disappointed, but this is a good one. As others have said, it's more thriller than horror. Needless to say, problems and difficulties ensue for all involved...Fun to the very end.
Last year I was tempted to buy a good home invasion movie on DVD to treat myself. I came upon the trailer for 'Intruders 2015' online. I found it to be very intriguing as well as it gave away some of the highlights of the movie itself. Not to forget that it was from the executive producer of 'Insidious', I immediately ordered it being well aware that it had a low rating. But was I in for a surprise once I felt unsatisfied with the outcome. 'Intruders' at first glance just seems like any other average home invasion movie. But here the protagonist has a mental illness of agoraphobia. This actually sets up the premise for the remainder of the film.Directed by Adam Schindler who as yet has nothing notable to his bio, makes a decent film. In the directing department he has shown potential. But with a week script, he had not much to work with. The usual 'woman in peril as thieves want to rob her' has been done countless times. At the time of it's release other similar movies such as ' Don't Breathe' and 'Hush' were more superior in terms of script and execution. Perhaps that is the reason for this film's poor performance. The main character turns against the thieves and gets the upper advantage by using hidden passage ways and rooms to keep them captive. Eventually she kills them. The second half moves at a much slower pace before the twist in the climax is revealed. If I ever met the writer I would certainly like to ask him how a woman with such a mental illness was able to fight. And how exactly were molesters were lured to the house? All said and done this is an average movie with good performances from all the actors. That is the saving grace but generic explanations for the twist ending is difficult to swallow.
I watched this movie on showtime on demand, I am glad I did not check reviews yet and just started watching the movie. My protocol is that if I am bored at the first 15 minutes then I stop watching. This movie hooked me till the very end. The leading lady Beth Riesgraf reminded me of Kate Hudson, they even act so similar. THe description was the movie is about a woman with agoraphobia, but at first I thought could she a vampire, ha ha ha, it was just too mysterious, but towards the middle, the plot was more clear. It was a good thriller, and I was hooting for Anna all the way. I was also feeling sorry for Rory Culkin (Dan). I wanted him to be saved not just because he's so cute, but he was so innocent.
First, I'll start by saying that Beth Riesgraf is a true little cutie and I could not resist searching her up after the movie. On the movie itself, the scenario is actually quite well constructed makes a lot sense. I love that simplicity primed in developing this movie contrarily to current Hollywood stupid trend looking to create extraordinary scenes when most of times a simplicity would have made it just as good. However, the title of my post says it all. While the movie is very clean and well produced, at the same time there is no extraordinary or spectacular elements to it. The question remains, does it play in its favor or not? I guess, the answer is subjective and might vary from an individual to another [...] but I will certainly not be able to single out a memorable scene because of that small absence of a sparkle.Despite this small aspect, I really do appreciate the simplicity of it all and from a pure technical standpoint, I find it really hard to find a fault to the overall production. To finish, I was particularly touched by the emotions that Beth Riesgraf were able to produce during the course of the story. She really give us an interesting/solid acting and it is nice that she is at the center of the whole thing considering the scenario. There is an interesting playfulness between her natural fragility due to her history and her intensity from the middle where she became resolute to get things sorted. She is certainly not a natural criminal which kinds of brings the spectator to care for her... is she the female Arsène Lupin that some people hate because of his despicable actions and love at the same time because of the morals that drive them. Hard to say [...]All in all, she does incarnate her character quite well considering this the first time I had ever heard about her and the remaining ones were credible in their respective roles [...] and, that's certainly where my imagination ends.
