It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.

It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.

It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,

It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

Drama about fear and prejudice, about false morality and double standards, about racism and political correctness that goes more and more into extremes until it becomes equally evil as evil it fights against. I always loved Hopkins and with every new movie I love him more. I think there's no role he can not nail and make story deeper and stronger. And if I continue to watch movies with Nicole Kidman I risk to fall in love. Few days ago, when I saw Far and Away, my antipathy towards her weakened and after The Human Stain it completely disappeared. Now I just need to see Moulen Rouge and I'll start sticking her posters around the room like teenager.8,5/10

The problem with the movie Human Stain is it uses clichés, false suppositions, and more prejudice to paint a confusing story. Anthony Hopkins plays a college professor who loses his career for making racial comments. His lifelong secret is he has black blood since his natural parents are light colored African Americans. The first supposition is he was wronged for being fired for making racial comments. He WAS angry with the black race since they reminded him of his family. Whites and blacks drag over the coals blacks with conservative view points. Any person who hates blacks is more deserving of contempt despite their race. There are good and bad whites and blacks so you don't write off an entire race because you are angry with your family.The second wrong supposition and the racism was that professor was a hot white chick magnet because of his secret black blood. If not for that pint of Black blood he'd be just another middle aged white loser who never gets laid. Otherwise how would he end up in a Philip Roth novel. Roth doesn't care about race. He just had to write another of his steamy books and add race to make him appear to be a more significant writer. The professor diddles with a woman who's sole is destroyed by her past. Half the people in the movie told him not to do it. You are supposed to believe his special love is enough to save her. It's really patronizing of Philip Roth to sink Blacks to the level of his writing pretending he's giving them a complement. They destroy each other for good reason oh but there is a racist. If you are killed by a racist there must be something good about you. There were no skid marks. Is that Roth saying it actually is wrong to have sex with a mentally ill person? Nothing like a Jew using pretend blacks to put down whites.

This film was a real treat. I am a great fan of kidman, hopkins, Harris and Sinise, I was a little put off by the reviews, however due to my like towards the key actors, I decided to give it a go.The bad reviews might have taken away any positive expectations I might have had before I watched the film. Thus after watching it I was surprised by how much I had enjoyed it. The film made me take a few moments after to think.I admit there were some slow parts in the film, yet I think they were meant to be there on purpose for they certainly gave me the time to think a little about what I had just seen and heard.There were many great lines in the movie, one stayed with me for some reason, the line was: "Action is the enemy of thought." Afterwards I found out it is a famous quote by Joseph Conrad. (1857-1921) All in all a great film lots of emotion great acting and one to remember. Although it may NOT be a must see before you die film.

Set in the late 1990s at the height of the Clinton sex-scandal, Coleman Silk, a respected professor at a New England college who suddenly finds his life unraveling after a comment he makes about some African-American students is misinterpreted as a racial slur. As the scandal heats up, Nathan Zuckerman, a writer researching a biography of Silk, begins to dig deeper and deeper into Silk's life. Eventually, matters are made worse when an affair with a young married janitor named Faunia Farley is exposed. But amid the controversy, Silk must struggle to keep his greatest secret, a secret he's held for the majority of his life, from becoming public.While the film does overreach at times, and might not be as powerful as the material deserves, The Human Stain is far from a failure.Though it fails to reach its potential to become an excellent film,it remains a challenging, thought-provoking film, buoyed with finely crafted performances from both Hopkin and Kidman for at the end of the movie,you do care for the people here.
