The Worst Film Ever
Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
Great cast and story. Love Tyler Perry as the leading man and happy to see Brian White and Phylicia Rashad in roles different from their normal characters. I'm not a fan of people who make poor choices because of pride, but it's a real part of life and Thandie Newton did an excellent job portraying Lindsey as a single mother down on her luck. This movie tugged at my heart strings and didn't let go. It will disappoint anyone needing CGI explosions, car chases and random loud bangs to enjoy a movie. However, anyone needing those things probably won't go see this movie. I can only assume the low rating is due to the low number of reviews. You should take IMDb ratings with a grain of salt. No way that Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy should have a 7.2 (it was literally like watching paint dry) nor should this movie have a 3.6.
I neglected watching this because of the bad reviews. Boy are they wrong! The characters were interesting and overall this was a truly delightful film!! I was pleasantly surprised. A lot of people who are used to seeing Black actors playing depressing, tragic or violent characters will be disappointed. Some may think Tyler Perry's role in this film was unrealistic but that's only true in their narrow world and in those narrow minds. The world is full of Black men and women doing amazing things and living pretty amazingly affluent lifestyles. Tyler Perry is only one of them. The "Deeds" character was just another one of them. There are so many more that I personally know who are pilots, doctors, lawyers, business owners, brokers, and on and on! Its too bad we don't have more films like this!! The negative ratings were wrong on this one! I learned a valuable lesson, DON'T JUDGE A FLICK BY ITS NEGATIVE CRITICISM!!! Bravo!!
I liked the storyline (it reminded me of a classic movie, the title of which escapes me at the moment). There seemed to be a lot of filler (hashing and rehashing of topics that were unnecessary), and a lot of holes (disconnects or missing plot elements), but overall I enjoyed this film despite the fact I am a male. Though the two seemingly main characters were males, this clearly was a chick flick, and that makes me wonder about Mr. Perry and just how much or how often he visits his "feminine" side. The movie had the look and feel of a big budget movie, unlike almost ALL of Mr. Perry's other films. I was grateful for that. I found Mr. Perry's acting in "Deeds" a refreshing departure from his usual, matronly facade. (SPOILER) Although, I'm sure even he would admit it is nowhere near Oscar quality. His transformation from uptight conformist to devil may care player was well paced, if not believable. And, less believable was the warp speed jump to and from affection in the portrayed relationships!(END SPOILER) My vote is 7.5. It would have been 8, but I took off half a point for Mr. Perry's precision grooming. He has a gigantic face and in the close-ups, the head and facial hair seem strange (I guess that is why they tell grade schoolers never to get a haircut just before school picture day. Both of the female love interests are extraordinarily beautiful and charming actresses, but it was uncomfortable trying to wrap my mind around a reason they were attracted to Mr. Deeds - money or not. And, what? -- The last scene on the plane was supposed to be a shocker??! Well...do I really need to say it? No. I don't think that I do. Good Job. But you can do better Mr. Perry. I know you will. J
I must admit, I love Tyler Perry's Movies. This was the first time I saw him in a more serious role. My 15 year old granddaughter and I saw the movie together. It was a romantic movie, it made you laugh and cry at the same time. It was an ideal family movie for Teens and Adults. The movie is great for the times we are living in, since people are losing jobs and it reminded me of good deeds that happened for people in N.C. at the end of 2011 where someone one was paying people's lay-aways for toys for children. Good Deeds is a reminder that it only takes one person can make a huge difference in someone's life.Again, fantastic movie, once it is on DVD, I plan to purchase it. I loved every minute of the movie.
